BREAKING: Judge refuses Craig's request to withdraw plea
Edited on Thu Oct-04-07 01:01 PM by doxieone
Source: CNN

The judge has ruled against Craig. He cannot withdraw his guilty plea.

No real surprise, is there?

ADDENDUM: Judge says "conviction is supported by the evidence."

Edit: From link.

Minneapolis — A Hennepin County judge had just denied Sen. Larry Craig's bid to withdraw a guilty plea, in a Minneapolis-St. Paul airport sting operation to catch men soliciting sex in public bathrooms.

Craig was arrested at the airport in June when an undercover officer said he made gestures that suggested he was interested in sex.

Craig argued in court documents that he pleaded guilty to the charges to prevent the Idaho Statesman newspaper from printing articles that questioned his sexuality.

1. Dirty Larry should resign now
I'm surprised no one brought up the fact that he didn't even flush the toilet nor washed his hands after playing footsie in the men's restroom.

3. No way ... he should stand tall ...
and get into the Presidential Race.

Since the Republican candidates are nothing more than good comedic entertainment, theres is no reason to limit the number of clowns in the circus.

Come on Larry run. You don't want people to think you are GAY do you ?

Cheers
Drifter

19. I heard chris matthews referring to all those cowboys in Idaho who
may or may not want him representing them.

Perhaps he was talking about "Brokeback Mountain" cowboys?

The BEST part of all, of course, is the strutting they all did, boasting and bragging and swaggering about how well they all handled this, and how professional and smooth and swift they took action to put this behind them and do the "right" thing. Yeah, they've sure pulled THAT off, haven't they? Textbook example of superior executive and almighty frickin' MANAGEMENT skills.

When I was still working, I remember despising management staff meetings. What a waste of time. Every department head all the way around the table was about nothing more than self-flattery and self-aggrandizement. BOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRIIIIINNNNNNNGGG... NOTHING really important or significant ever got accomplished as far as I could see. And for that one particular general manager, I always got the sense that it was all about delegating authority so he could go off and have another of those glitzy expense-account country-club lunches or go hobknob with some other management type at the golf course or something. What I learned was that "delegating authority" became the god they worshipped, and was little more than an excuse to find somebody else to do their jobs for them. They just took it WAY overboard. I never enjoyed being part of management. At least in those scenarios.

There was ONE general manager whom I just loved. A very great man, who actually didn't hold a lot of staff meetings. Only when necessary. There wasn't much in the memo department, and he cared a LOT. LOVED the station. LOVED its music. LOVED what it was all about (ROCKIN'!) and particularly LOVED the people who implemented it in the music and programming departments. He was like a father to most of us there. This was a guy in one of those silk imported suits and manicured nails who hobknobbed with the best of 'em at the ABC networks, but still came in, willingly, at MIDNIGHT to be a guest on this little bitty public affairs talk show I had on Sunday night-Monday morning. And he stayed there for the whole two hours. DAMN he was such a wonderful, principled, congenial man. Wife was simply lovely and his kids were wonderful, too. He was still relatively young when he fell dead on the grass while playing center field in a softball game with friends and some of the sales staff. We were all distraught. As we should have been. It was a huge loss to the entire broadcasting community, especially in our market. He was wonderful. He presided over a VERY happy and secure shop, where people felt appreciated and well-treated. It was like family. No cliche there. And that feeling stopped when his heart did. It was a real body blow. I worked a LOT of jobs before I retired, and I worked with a LOT of different permutations of management. And I never saw a general manager after him who even minimally measured up.

21. What a loss!

It is sad that you all lost him when you did but at least you are that much richer for having known him.

2. No surprise indeed.
Will he just resign now, please?

It's obvious to all that Craig is simply too stupid to be a United States Senator.

15. Stupid and dishonest, IMO.
Yeah, he is a dumb one....and he is dishonest to himself and everyone else about who he is and what he did in the bathroom.

Hey, Sen Craig: It is NOT against the law to be gay. Deal with it, OK? I would like you a hell of a lot better and even maybe think about having some respect for you if you stopped the freaking lying about yourself.

JMHO

5. Hang in there, Larry! You're just getting started! You can beat this thing! Take it all the way
to the Supremes! You have every right to simulate soliciting gay sex in public bathrooms! You just have a wide stance is all!

Where's this man's defense fund contribution site? I think he needs some help. I don't want to see him give up on this thing until after the erections next year.

Edited on Thu Oct-04-07 01:42 PM by TexasBushwhacker
if they had allowed him to withdraw his guilty plea. Can you imagine what our justice system would be like if everyone could? What a mess. You're a big boy Larry. They told you to consult with an attorney and you chose not to. You thought pleading guilty would make it all go away. It didn't. TOUGH SHIT!

A little extra funny; if you click on the link to the whole article and scroll down to "related stories" there's one called "A conversation with Ian McKellan", who happens to be gay and UNASHAMED!

I suppose he eventually goes whining to the SCOTUS and with that bunch
of ideological retards at the helm I'm sure they’ll find some miniscule legal precedent
to get this pervert back in the men's room stalls once again...

....have not seen a link on the events....so thanks for posting on this.

And...IMO, the judge was correct. The grounds that Craig stated in his motion were total bullshit.
