Clinton outlines economic plan in Iowa
Source: USA Today

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, outlining her "economic blueprint" in a critical state for the Democratic presidential nomination, criticized the NAFTA trade agreement for "serious shortcomings" and called for a rescue plan for the mortgage crisis.

Speaking to a largely union audience of about 250 people, Clinton said she believes that it is "time that we assess trade agreements every five years to make sure they're meeting their goals and make adjustments if they're not …. "

Her "economic blueprint" includes setting up a $50 billion Strategic Energy Fund for research and development of alternative energies, strengthening unions, offering affordable health care, addressing the mortgage crisis and "returning to fiscal responsibility and moving towards balanced budgets."

"We have to change our economic course just as we have to change course in Iraq, and change course when it comes to health care," she said.

Can anyone tell me what the plan is? Is it only about alternative energy for Big Oil and bailing out foreclosures?

Honestly, I would love to find some reason to vote for her, but the media doesn't report the actual plan. Is there a plan? What is it? What's outlined here isn't a plan.

Ultimately, I doubt I can vote for her if she doesn't change her stance on the war. She says she wants to "change course in Iraq". Staying until 2013 isn't changing course. Is there something else I've missed?

And you can just hold your comments about "not being enough of a Democrat to be on DU" because I won't vote for her. I'm not voting for a repuke either. It will likely be none of the above if she is the nominee. There is NOTHING in DU's rules that says I "must vote for the Dem nominee". I'd like answers to my questions. If you want to accuse me of not being Dem enough, there are plenty of other threads to hit where people don't like her.

1. "Can anyone tell me what the plan is?" After you've declared you hate it?
Why would anyone bother? :eyes:

3. Can you tell me where in my post I declared I hate it? I am looking for info
The media is not reporting the plan. What is the plan? There is little in the news story about the plan. Do you know what the plan is? You seem like you might be a supporter. What is the plan?

2. "...if she doesn't change her stance on the war." I'm with you, sister. If she wants to tackle
healthcare or the economy, fine. But if she can't get the right answer to the most fundamental of positions for this election, I won't vote for her.

4. Pretty sad that you felt you had to add that last paragraph.
Says a lot about DU these days. But, hey, it's primary season. It happened four years ago too. Hang in there!

Anyway, as for details on Hillary's plan, try visiting her Web site! Particularly the "strengthening the middle class" section, which has bullet points on all the economic points Hillary's making in the campaign:

For the record, Clinton isn't my first choice in the primaries. Or my second or third, for that matter. But if she wins, I definitely intend to vote for her in the general.

5. Thanks. When I see "blueprint" I think something from which we can build
I don't see the answers there either. She seems to have an understanding of the problem, but I don't see how she will change it. Is there some other place on her site where she outlines how she will make college affordable, for instance? I'm already critical of her health plan as I don't think it will help the lower middle class or the poor. I'm willing to look at other issues.

8. I don't disagree with you.

Hillary seems to say more and more of the right things as the campaign goes on, but her issues page at her Web site isn't nearly as thorough as that of, say, Obama or Kucinich, where you've got lengthy details of proposed government programs that address each of the issues. It's a bit disconcerting, and that lack of detail, which in turn tends to give credence to the common criticism that she's a say-anything candidate, is one of the several problems that knock her down to about No. 5 or 6 on my list of preferred presidential candidates.

On edit: ElizabethDC's link, above, has some good details of Hillary's economic plan. Read away!

7. Yeah, but how?
The website doesn't say how she plans to accomplish these things. There are no specifics.

Not that I'm surprised by this, given the source.
