Iowa Moves Up Republican Primary To Jan. 3

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) Iowa Republicans on Tuesday rescheduled their presidential nominating caucuses to Jan. 3 in response to other states scheduling early contests.

"With under 80 days to go, this is a huge help to our counties and county chairs to get the ball rolling and start organizing," Chuck Laudner, executive director of the Iowa GOP, said in a statement.

The announcement came late Tuesday after the state central committee, two national committee members and the party chairman approved the date on a conference call.

Laudner said Republicans will continue to talk with the Iowa Democratic Party, which has yet to choose a caucus date. Democrats are believed to be considering Jan. 3 and Jan. 5. If they choose the later date, it would mean the first split caucus since the 1970s.

This is a Thursday, allowing candidates to relocate to NH for weekend campaigning before the (for now) scheduled primary on Jan 8, but if anyone trips and falls...

1. Oh man
Everyone's pushing their dates earlier and earlier. If this goes on then in 20 years we'll have people announcing their candidacy immadiately after the last presidential election. ;) Is it possible for them to keep the campaign season short and sweet, like 4 months?

3. Well, it used to be that some people were perpetual candidates
like Harold Stassen. They didn't need to announce because they were always candidates. Lyndon LaRouche too, I think. So in one sense this is nothing new. And Bush was always running from Day One untild his second fraudulent elction.

2. Why not just make the caucus on Election Day 2007
That would make it all a lot more simple, and sufficiently absurd.

4. next time around, some state will schedule their primary/caucus . . .
for the first week in December in the year the previous election is held . . . the candidates will be out campaigning before Christmas, two years in advance and less than two months after the prior election . . .

that's how absurd this is getting . . .
