Bush warns of World War III if Iran goes nuclear
Source: AFP

<snip>

"US President George W. Bush said Wednesday that he had warned world leaders they must prevent Iran from getting nuclear weapons "if you're interested in avoiding World War III."

"We've got a leader in Iran who has announced that he wants to destroy Israel," Bush said at a White House press conference after Russia cautioned against military action against Tehran's supect atomic program.

"So I've told people that, if you're interested in avoiding World War III, it seems like you ought to be interested in preventing them from having the knowledge necessary to make a nuclear weapon," said Bush."

And he's done a helluva fine job of losing it for us, too.

69. Oy Vey, can we not buy into the rightist framing of a constant "conflict between civilizations"?
Be our enemy du jour Muslim extremists (and by extension all Muslims), or "those Godless Commie Bastards", the right is always shouting from the rooftops that we are in a life-or-death global conflict.

Why am I seeing this same rhetoric from a 1000+ post DUer?

At best, the cold war was WWIII by proxy, if you catch my drift. Hell, even if you don't catch my drift.

I kind of wish Russia would just come right out and say that any attack on Iran would be considered an attack on Russia.

The problem with that is the chimp is just crazy enough to go ahead and bomb Iran anyway.

29. I disagree that Israel is our enemy, even though I am firmly
oppoosed to current Israeli policy in the Occupied Territories and to the Likudnik\Kadena governments recently. Historically, many strands of Zionism were most definitely a force for positive change and thus should not be equated with post-1967 Israeli governments and their policies and actions towards the Palestinians, the Golan and Lebanon.

78. I agree.
There is a peace proposal, I believe the one discussed at Taba, I should check my sources on that one, that fits with the general consensus of the international community, that concessions need to be made and Israel needs to abide by international law. (So does the US!) We are the prime military support for Israel and the us govt. is passionately determined to being blind to Israeli aggression. Israel is not the enemy, but we are in a unique position to exert diplomatic pressure to solve this thing, and eliminate a huge propaganda tool for jihadists in the process. I don't think all Israeli's are aggressive, i doubt they're government represents them any more than Bush represents us, but clearly there needs to be a policy change. And Bush's insinuating that Iran is developing Nuclear technology specifically to destroy Israel is rediculous, about as rediculous as the claim that you hear all around that Bush and co. are doing this on behalf of the Israeli lobby, they have plenty of reasons of they're own to do the wrong things, if any lobbyist groups hold any kind of sway over this administration, it's corporate ones.

32. Well, it's not Israel as much as the Iranian OIL * and Darth R...
Really "interested" in...

All the "other" words (except that one: oil) around R just blah blah blah (and bad ones).

Do the math. Between $100 to $200/brl multiplied by some trillions of barrels equal (how much in profits?)

Heck: Darth, Rumsferatu, Wolfo & even his little big-bro signed the plan at the PNAC.

And which one of Iraq's Ministry was the first one to get "invaded" in 2003?

Easy.

The Rest Of The World Knows What These Robber-Barons R after: the same "sh*t" Hitler&Co were after = O I L

O I L = P O W E R = D O M I N A T I O N

54. That's how I read it too
It could read either way but I think he was saying that if Iran nuked Israel that would start WWIII. Not that WWIII would start if Iran tries to get nukes.

Still, its hard to tell what Bush is saying. Sometimes he makes no sense at all. His stupidity is a real threat when he starts talking about nukes and WWIII. Saying something wrong could put us on the track to war.

He ought to have a reviewed script to read from on those matters. Its safer.

62. Note the language
He's not talking about them "getting nukes" or "going nuclear" as the headlines says:

"if you're interested in avoiding World War III, it seems like you ought to be interested in preventing them from having the knowledge necessary to make a nuclear weapon"

Having the knowledge is enough for this insane asshole! The knowledge that is already out there - wouldn't be surprised if you couldn't pick up tips online even.

As someone above said: Get this f'ing madman away from the launch codes NOW!

72. If we do to Iran what we have done to Iraq
Well, I don't know what, but it makes me want to quit praying for cheneybush to have joy, prosperity, love and light in their lives, like I have been. Oh, I hope cheney wakes up each day, smiling, laughing with joy from all his abundance.

73. was it me or did he sound threatening and Angry
he said The President has the Vetoe and I'm going to use it

then he spouts off about checks and balances with kinda a smug smart alecky way
and then he pops out WWIII

I mean he really doesn't grasp his situation

He thinks he can sit there and everybody will jump to his tune

or else he threatens WWIII

When you fight a WWIII you need someone to inspire you to give your life and sacrifice
He isn't inspiring

I think bottomline is he wants more deaths and lots of deaths

He was threatening or was that my imagination
