Lukashenko "would consider" return of nuclear weapons to Belarus

Oct 18, 2007, 16:34 GMT

Minsk - Belarusian President Aleksander Lukashenko on Thursday declared his government 'willing to consider' a return of nuclear weapons to the country, and hinted a US plan to deploy missiles to Central Europe might well serve as a catalyst.

The former collective farm boss made the comments to a group of Japanese journalists visiting the Belarusian capital Minsk.

'I would be willing consider bringing back nuclear weapons,' Lukashenko said.

Asked about his attitude towards a Washington proposal to base anti-missile missiles in East Europe, Lukashenko responded 'Belarus would react extremely negatively.'

Lukashenko's remarks were the broadest hint yet that Lukashenko, an authoritarian leader pilloried in the West, intended to react strongly if the US went through with its plan, which foresees placement of a missile intercept system with elements in Poland and the Czech Republic.

5. I guess the whole terrorism thing isn't................
working out so well for bushco. Then again, it would be a lot worse for him if the majority of Dems had some balls.
But hey......new cold war everyone wins. Right.

6. Of course he would. It is only prudent now that the Bushies have restarted

The Grand Chessboard. A nuclear "queen" is now a MUST for those who wish to play with Soulmates Bush and Putin, China nd the rest.

A MUST.

Good for Lukashenko. It is so refershing to see a tyrant so unashamed of his tyranny, unlike these Bushie (w)ussies who are too scared to just get it ON already and stop pretending.

We'll have to wait for Emperor Jeb or George P. Caligula for it hat, I imagine. I should be careful what I wish for, because it's almost certainly coming and none of us will be too happy when it arrives.

13. You missed three.
We don't have repubs on the *-party payroll going around and beating up union workers and ethnic activists in their own meeting halls and all the polls, only to have newspapers that talk about it find their reporters and editors beaten up and their presses confiscated.

Lukashenka looks good here, because he's anti-*. But that's a horrible basis for forming political and ethical judgments.

14. I'm not refering to Lukashenka
I'm referring to little boots and what he's accomplished.

As I pointed out, we aren't at zero yet, but he's working on it.

17. Trust me, I don't think anyone is saying Lukashenka is a good guy
As I undersand it, he is very much a Bushie piece of shit, he just ins't ontheir side of BushPutinism, he's on the Putin side.

I think your fears are unfounded, and I do agree that's a shitty way of judging people politically and ethically.

It's like what the Bushies did when they embraced Saddam and when they embraced (probably still embracing) Bin Laden.

We don't want to be like them, and as I said I don't think that is what people are saying at all.
