Republicans Object To (Rep. Pete) Stark Comments On War
Edited on Thu Oct-18-07 02:44 PM by sabra
Source: CBS News/Politico

(The Politico) House Republicans objected today to comments made by outspoken liberal Democratic Rep. Pete Stark of California on the Iraq war during debate on the override of President Bush's veto of the children's health program.

Speaking on the House floor, Stark said, "Under the Republican plan, by
2017, we probably will have killed 20,000 soldiers in Iraq, spending
$200 billion."

...

Earlier in the SCHIP debate, Stark had made other spirited remarks.

“You don't have money to fund the war or children,'' he said. "But you're going to spend it to blow up innocent people if we can get enough kids to grow old enough for you to send to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the president's amusement."

Responding promptly and harshly to Stark, the National Republican Congressional Committee declared he had "trampled on the sacrifice of our troops."

Adam Putnam is on C-Span a lot backing Bush up on the war. A real chicken hawk and well within the age of being able to enlist. (I looked up his age on his website to be sure.) I've tried to get into Washington Journal when he has been on to ask him why he is in DC and not Baghdad, but haven't been able to.

Greenspan said it is all about, and should be all about, oil. We cannot risk anyone cutting off our supply.

Are parents willing to have their children sacrifice their lives so we'll have oil?

35. and they call us the whiners?
Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas) rose to protest the remark and asked that Stark's words be taken down, a formal procedure to punish a member of Congress for breaching the House's standards of decorum.

the skin of these rats is so thin that politics means nothing to them. politics isn't just about making criticism, its about listening to and solving these problems. these freepers regularly rip liberals for being "socialists, unpatriotic, and for being baby killers"..ie pro-choice.

but we hurt their wittle feelings when we point out that being "pro-life" isn't the same as imprisoning women who have abortions or blocking the potential for life saving cures made possible with stem-cell research. HOW DARE WE SUGGEST THAT TAXPAYERS SHOULD TAKE CARE OF UNINSURED CHILDREN, ESPECIALLY THOSE WITH CHRONIC MEDICAL PROBLEMS!!!

never mind that Republicans call one of our best leaders, Senator OSAMA. never mind that Republicans didn't support our troops by paying more in taxes, or attacked President Clinton for our involvement in Bosnia. its ok to claim that Clinton doesn't have an exit strategy and be proved wrong, but Republicans say its only hypocrisy to suggest that Bush needs an exit strategy. never mind that Bush ran on being a compassionate conservative, saying that Bill Clinton embodied both of these by balancing the budget and helping the uninsured is something these skinless animals can never except!

37. You just watch. They'll make this the story, not the veto.
We've seen the performance before from the right wing talks show hosts and their ilk, and the codependent media: scream hysterically for days about a comment -- not an action, a comment - and sanctimoniously maintain that such-and-such a Democrat doesn't support the troops, etc., raising such a stink that an apology is in the offing.

Don't do it, Pete. Tell 'em to insert their veto pens in the appropriate orifice.

43. Bush and his fellow GOP chicken hawks get orgasms over the graves of our noble Fallen
They all hate veterans because they are always cutting veteran benefits. They all love the dead soldiers for they make for great backdrops for their cynical patriotic speeches.

Peter Stark is right!

Republicans never apologize for anything. Democrats should learn to never apologize to Republican for anything.

The Republican Party is not a political party but a crypto-nazi criminal enterprise. Republicans should all be arrested and subjected to rendition prior to disappearing in the gulag that Bush created. They all deserve the same fate they created for others.

I want to see the president bow his head before the American people for what he has done.

Although I don't hold much hope for that, I am sure that when he leaves this world he will be taken to task for the horror he has visited on the people of this planet.
