Perry Says He'll Help Giuliani Overturn Roe

By AP Fri Oct 19, 4:55 AM ET

(GALVESTON, Texas) - Facing criticism from key conservatives, Texas Gov. Rick Perry said he endorsed GOP presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani despite their philosophical differences because he believes the former mayor is the only Republican who could win in 2008.

The election of Democratic candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton would be "devastating" to the economy, the military and to the anti-abortion movement, Perry told The Associated Press in an exclusive interview.

"Where is that perfect candidate? Is it one of the others? I think not," Perry said, in response to criticism that he was urging Republicans to settle for a candidate who doesn't completely represent their views.

Perry also said he has no interest in becoming vice president and would turn Giuliani down if he made such an offer.

2. Notice how you never hear a Dem saying Republicans would be "devastating."
Our candidates, save DK, are all pussies. They're too polite. No one wants to sound mean. But they need to start fighting fire with fire. Tell it like it is..."If (insert any Republican here) gets elected, the country will end up in perpetual war, ruled by an oligarchy, serving only the wealthy and connected, and it will be the final nail in the coffin of democracy."

But no. We want to be "civil" and polite. While they're kicking our asses.

17. Atman, you hit the nail on the head.
We have to be firm and truthful...but at the same time we have to be respectful because we can't offend the delicate sensibilities of some of these nuts who get turned off by anyone who seems a little mean.

I’m shocked to see how much politeness means everything to some people. ... ... “Oh I’ll forgive my candidate for voting yes to the IWR, because he said, he’s “sorry”. ...All is forgiven. :banghead:

4. Bullshit. And eliminate a sure GOP get-out-the-vote issue?
They've had 7 years to accomplish this with a friendly Congress and pet Supreme Court.

Doubtful.

8. Clinton devastating to the economy & the military?
I'm no fan of Hillary, as I find her too reluctant to take a stand on anything. HOWEVER. . . . A Republican stating that she would be devastating to the economy & the military? Ummm. . . What planet do these people come from? What do they think Bush* has done to the economy & the military???

I kid...we do have some wonderful things here in Bammy. If you get down to Birmingham, go to the Civil rights Museum. It's powerful. Oh, and North Alabama has some beautiful wilderness.

18. Only himself and the 39% of Texas stupid enough to have voted for him.
Personally, I find it funny that he's taken it upon himself to throw his support behind Giuliani. The only thing funnier is that Giuliani is so desperately in need of some fundy backing, any fundy backing, he'd embrace his support.

It's the blind leading the blind if ever there was a case of such.

19. Perry has just a little bit more than zero clout in the political world.
Even the vast majority of Texans didn't want him serving another term as governor.

Considering that only 19 percent of Americans think abortions should all be made illegal, I don't see a theatrical stunt such as this is going to help Giuliani's bid for the WH.

But who am I to stop them from beating that dead horse some more?

24. What I don't understand:
Is why a court decision made in the 1970s continues to be an issue on the table in the 2000s. It's three decades later, is there no way to just put this beast to rest so people will talk about something else? Is it going to take a constitutional amendment to make people just shut up once and for all?

nominee for the Repubican party in hopes that what I wrote did not offend my Christian friends here on the forum. What I wrote several times over the last few weeks is what I have seen thus far in the last two weeks. The leaders of the religious right coming to their senses by coming out with statements not supporting Rudy.....Why? Because they are not saying it and the reporters are not calling it what it really is and that being labeled a hypocrite.....One cannot say they would never support a candidate especially a democrat if they supported a womans right to choose, or gay rights or gun control.....As we all know Rudy favors all three and for a Christian to cast a vote for Rudy would be hypocritical.....Simple as that....Plus Perry will not get the chance too as a Democrat will be President come january 20, 2009....
