FIRST IN LINE

Vaccine prioritization for some groups changes according to the severity of a pandemic, but in all scenarios, those who get the first doses under a draft federal plan are:

• 700,000 deployed and critical military personnel

• 6.3 million public health, hospital, outpatient, home health and long-term care workers

• 2.1 million emergency medical services, police and firefighters, vaccine and antiviral manufacturers, key government leaders

• 13.4 million pregnant women and babies 6 to 35 months old

"Key Government figures"-I'd be willing to take this horseshit to court.These human humunculi have the unmitigated GALL to suggest that George W Bush or Condeleeza Rice have more purpose or are more necessary to the survival of this country than my Mom or Dad??? That an acting attorney general of a disgraced justice department has more value to America than my 60 year old sister or 58 year old brother??? That regime supporting 30 year old partisan drones should take precedence over those valued moral friends I have worked to identify and and bring into my 54 year old Life???
In each case I argue, those I would choose to protect have behaved with more honor and fidelity to the ideals of America than any Republican now in office and MOST democrats....They have lived smaller lives with gentler footprints and a total lack of regard for being rewarded for just being good and precious people-but that is what they have done. Never applauded they have raised children, and waged our wars, payed their taxes and voted....and never among them a trust fund, a "legacy" degree, or a misspent youth of gentle privilage...

13. This really isn't news

Pandemic planning has been going on for years, even in my little backwoods county. And the list usually looks about like this. This federal plan mirrors every health agency's recommendations since they've been thinking about pandemics.

The planning is an interesting process, I got to sit in on some of it at a local level. You try to imagine how basic things get done if there's something virulent out there ... like city offices closing and people trying to work from home, police and firefighters doing all their communicating by radio (and on which channels?), road and bridge crews coordinating by phone, schools closing, trying to get information to the public, etc. It's quite a challenge, even in a tiny hamlet such as mine; as an exercise they tried to do it for one morning and found a ton of holes in the system.

Obviously we don't have a standing army in my county, so that part's different. ;)
