Second person dies in California wildfires

LOS ANGELES, Oct 23 (Reuters) - A second person died on Tuesday in the raging wildfires sweeping across Southern California, authorities said.

The individual, who was not immediately identified, was caught in the 38,000-acre (15,380 hectare) Buckweed Fire fire north of Los Angeles, U.S. Forest Service spokesman Jason Kirchner said.

"We understand there was a civilian injury from the initial attack on the Buckweed Fire on Monday and that person succumbed to their injuries today," Kirchner said.

3. This is just so very sad.......
One cannot help but wonder about the difference a full contingent of the California National Guard might have made..if so many of them were not in Iraq.

5. Not that we want to lose anyone
but from what I've heard, we're damn lucky nearly everyone has gotten out without injury, given the extent of what's going on.

7. Keep mrbush away. They are busy enough dealing with the fires.
I'd be really pissed if I had to stand down while he toured the area and more stuff burnt.

9. Local news reports at least 5 have now died.
Sadly there will no doubt be more found when authorities are able to get into the burned areas, especially in the back country rural towns and canyons where many may not have been able to escape, or chose to defy evacuation orders.
