COPENHAGEN -- A Scandinavian Airlines turboprop carrying 44 people made a crash-landing in Denmark on Saturday, sliding down the runway on its belly after part of the landing gear on the Canadian-made plane collapsed.

No one was seriously injured in the accident, the third crash landing involving the airline's Bombardier-built Q400 turboprops in less than two months.

Scandinavian Airlines, or SAS, grounded its turboprops after Saturday's accident at the Copenhagen Airport "until further notice," the company said in a statement.

2. An Alaska Airlines pilot says the crashes in Europe are
because of shitty maintainence SAS is well known for and in 5 years they will have replaced their entire regional horizon fleet with the Q400.

3. Wow .... Another Dash8-400 loses it's legs ....
Criminy .... I work on HUD systems for Dash8, which obviously have nothing to do with landing gear issues ... It is unfortunate that Bombardier did not design a robust strut support system for these popular short hop aircraft .....

4. Odds are they farmed the LG mechanical systems out to one of the specialty companies
so I would tend to think it is adequately engineered. There may be a systems issue, crew issue, or maintenance.

5. Well .... knowing the pre-production process ...
Im sure it looked good on paper .... and 'Aging' issues, like fatigue and corrosion, can be difficult to foretell ... Nevertheless: They placed much faith in their suppliers ability to produce as defined, and either : 1) The definition was insufficient .... or 2) The hardware is not produced as defined ....

We have deadlines in the 'JIT/LEAN' production environment with Bombardier, and we sometimes barely scrape by ... primarily due to production time constraints, since the subsystem design was proven long ago and is quite mature.

I just hope they resolve the issue, because its a big one that can reduce confidence; enough to eventually kill it .....

Those emergency landings are not a huge selling point with customers ....
