Bush: Congress is not getting its work done

October 30, 2007

(CNN) -- President Bush blasted the Democratic-controlled Congress on Tuesday for having "the worst record in 20 years." "Congress is not getting it's work done," Bush said, flanked by members of the Republican House leadership. "The House of Representatives has wasted valuable time on a constant stream of investigations, and the Senate has wasted valuable time on an endless series of failed votes to pull our troops out of Iraq."

Bush criticized Congress for not being able to send "a single appropriations bill" to him. "They haven't seen a bill they could not solve without shoving a tax hike into it," he said. Democrats quickly fired back. Jim Manley, senior aide to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, said, "Taking advice from President Bush about fiscal responsibility and getting things done for the American people is like taking hunting lessons from Dick Cheney. Neither is a very good idea."

*snip*

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Maryland, issued a statement calling Bush "the biggest obstacle" to extending health coverage to "10 million low-income, working-class American children." Hoyer said GOP House leaders need to "stop posing for pictures, and sit down with Democrats and Republicans in Congress who are working together to extend coverage to our children."

The State Children's Health Insurance Program measure passed in the House last week would expand the program by nearly $35 billion over five years, the same as the measure Bush vetoed on October 3. Bush had proposed adding $5 billion to the program, and said the version he vetoed would have encouraged families to leave the private insurance market for the federally funded, state-run program. Democratic leaders said the new version addresses Republican objections by tightening restrictions on illegal immigrants receiving SCHIP benefits; capping the income levels of families that qualify for the program; and preventing adults from receiving benefits.

- Worst record?!?!?! Do you mean like the terrible record you've gotten for your wars??? How in the hell would he recognize a bad record??? And this is what we get from the man presently occupying the White House who has spent more time on vacations than anyone prior to. Which in retrospect has probably been a good thing. Hey George!!! Screw You!!!

And I mean this in all sincerity.

6. Actually, I like him being pissed....
...at Congress. Because he sure as hell can't tell them what to do, nor how to do it. I'd prefer that the bill was passed. However I'll take any kind of drubbing of the Pukies that I can get. And they're screaming like the wankers they are and are being raked over the coals on children's health care, which a substantial majority of the whole country wants and supports. What dumbasses!

So these stupid Repukers find themselves standing on the wrong side. And with George Bush. Lovely.

- I know it must be frustrating for these assholes, so all they got left is wailing and pointing fingers.

14. A flashback to December 2006.
Why, what's this? Tales of when the Republicans controlled both houses of Congress and the White House. Listen, my children...

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/12/04/washington/04lame.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

WASHINGTON, Dec. 3 — Republicans intend to conclude the 109th Congress this week and leave Democrats stuck with the tab in the form of unfinished spending bills as the days of Republican rule draw to a close on Capitol Hill.

Congressional leaders said election losses had sapped Republican enthusiasm for trying to finish nine spending measures that were due Oct. 1. Congress will instead pass a stopgap measure to keep the government running until mid-February, leaving the fiscal tangle for the new Democratic majority to sort out next year.

Republicans will, however, try to record some final accomplishments as they intend to adjourn by Friday. They would like to extend a number of popular tax breaks rather than see Democrats get credit for restoring them next year. House Republicans also plan to try to push through an expansion of offshore oil and gas drilling opportunities and will take a symbolic anti-abortion vote before Democrats, many of whom support abortion rights, take control in January.

Nine unfinished spending bills in December, with the GOP in control of all the branches of government. And here we have Bush clutching his veto pen and threatening to pick up his toys and go home if things are done precisely as he wishes.

We need a big fat whining baby smiley.

4. This has been their plan since Nov 2006
Block everything the Democrats try to accomplish, then paint them as a do nothing congress and convince the stupid among the voters that it's time to replace them with REPUBLICONS.

Of course the Democratic congress has only themselves to blame, they could have blocked bu$h on many fronts and investigated the crimes being committed by the regime.

5. DON'T allow this Republican spin to catch on.....
Edited on Tue Oct-30-07 05:59 PM by State the Obvious
The Democrats have been in control for only 10 months!

The "mess" was made by the REPUBLICAN-CONTROLLED Congress during the previous 6 YEARS!

This type of Republican media spin must be corrected EACH TIME it is mentioned. We cannot give Republicans the idea that we are not going to refute their misleading information.

Whenever it is mentioned, take the time to correct it.

16. Calm down.
Only 25% of this nation barely listens to George and less than that number believes him.

It doesn't matter what he says now or ever. Shit has hit every fan in the country and gas is $3 a gallon.

All anyone wants from George now is GONE.

7. WTF?
"wasted valuable time on a constant stream of investigations"

Unlike, say, the fruitful and necessary investigations of Christmas card lists?

SHUT UP, GEORGE.

9. Dear Senators and Representatives,
Do not let Bush semantically beat you into submission, it is you, the Legislative Branch, that has the most importance in the Constitution, at least according to my understanding of it. Article #1, and don't ever forget it! Keep investigating, and impeach Cheney as soon as you can.

By investigating, bringing impeachment charges, defunding the Iraq war and bringing the troops home, rest assured you are doing The People's business.

Dissent as hard as you can against the Unitary Executive, and roll that whole theory back as well, now that I mentioned it.

You're Article #1, don't let Bush take that from you!

21. If they had not constantly broken the law
there would be no need for investigations. He just can't stand it that he is not getting his own way. No one has ever said "no" to him in his entire life. So he is whining like a two year old that has to eat his dinner before he gets dessert.
