Obama, Clinton to clash in New Hampshire debates

by Stephen Collinson Sat Jan 5, 3:37 AM ET

MANCHESTER, New Hampshire (AFP) - Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton on Saturday clash face-to-face for the first time since he captured the first 2008 White House nominating contest and threw her campaign into turmoil.

Three days before the second leg of the presidential selection marathon in New Hampshire, the rivals will trade shots as surviving Democratic and Republican hopefuls take part in unusual back-to-back televised debates.

Obama, triumphant in the Iowa caucuses on Thursday, will try to avoid mistakes while the former first lady is desperate to stall his momentum and hopes to use New Hampshire's primary on Tuesday as a firewall.

In the Republican debate, former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney will look to hit back at ordained Baptist preacher Mike Huckabee, who pulled off a stunning triumph in Iowa, while surging John McCain also hopes to shine.

Obama and Clinton turn battle to New Hampshire

By Mark Egan and Claudia Parsons 2 hours, 59 minutes ago

PORTSMOUTH, New Hampshire (Reuters) - Democrat Barack Obama, fresh from a dramatic victory in Iowa, took his presidential campaign to New Hampshire on Friday, where he hopes to deal a potential knock-out blow to one-time front-runner Hillary Clinton next week.

Clinton, the New York senator and former first lady who was forced into a disappointing third in Thursday's Iowa caucuses behind Obama and former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards, suddenly finds herself in a possible must-win situation in next Tuesday's New Hampshire primary.

Obama, an Illinois senator seeking to become the first black U.S. president, quickly tried to take advantage of his Iowa victory.

2. We need to write the media and demand Edwards be covered now....
The media wants Hillary so badly, and they're so afraid of her losing, that they are terrified of covering Edwards.

3. DIRECTLY below that article on the bottom of Yahoo's page:
Voters admire, doubt Edwards' anti-corporate stance Reuters, 28 minutes ago

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080105/pl_nm/usa_politics_edwards_dc_1;_ylt=Amv.JiTCS2Si5Pn5dOPrJnbZa7gF

WE CAN SEE THAT REUTERS WANTS HILLARY OR OBAMA while dissing Edwards's anti-corporate stance. WHAT a surprise (not).

WHO OWNS REUTERS? Are they AFRAID of Edwards? I think so. Trashing him in their media whilst promoting the THIRD PLACE winner in Iowa says it all.

24. I think Edwards should come out and say it, too
He knows why he's not getting the coverage from the corporate-owned media.

Having Hillary lose her temper will sell more papers. Never mind that it was Edwards who pushed her buttons.

Let them roll in the mud. As long as he stays on message and above the fray, he will come out ahead.

23. The corporate media will not notice
Edwards is the only guy taking them on.

No one's got his back. He's alone on this one.

And, IMO, he's spot-on!

This media skew is fucked and should give us a fair game.

8. Why are they having a stupid debate after Iowa and before NH voting anyway
Edited on Sat Jan-05-08 12:27 PM by bigdarryl
I don't remember them doing this in 2000 or 2004 these SO-CALLED debates aren't really debates. they don't have enough time to get there point across.so whats the point in having them.

16. Turn your complaints into ACTION!

AFP's contact page (select "Contact News Department"--fourth on the "What Would You Like To do?" dropdown list): I wrote that there was a third frontrunner in the race who finished second in Iowa, but apparently that seemed to be "news to you."

Reuters contact page (select "Editorial and News" from the "Topic" dropdown list): I asked why a "mainstreamer" like Hillary COULDN'T defeat an "idealistic outsider" like Edwards!

18. I confess
It was my ignorance and indifference that's let things get like this. Of course, I AM NOT ALONE in that regards!
We've stood by and watched as the Right laid the tracks and then sent the freight right down them - whistling straight past our noses while only a few "lunatic fringe elements" raised questions about our country being "stolen".
It CAN be turned around - and a leader as daring and fiesty as Edwards is the sort we need to take action on our behalf. But of course, we HAVE to lift him high enough to make him visible above all the others that the MSM would prefer.

19. Kucinich is the one being ignored. There is
no legitimate reason why he should be excluded. At least, unlike Edwards, he showed up to the 100 Club Democratic dinner last night and gave a great speech.

22. If Edwards is invisible, as you suggest (not a headline)
It's because the CORPORATE media won't cover him and won't tell the truth.

Edwards is the only guy taking them on. No other Dem has his back.

Shame.
