Marines Open Inquiry Into Shooting

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. (AP) — The Marine Corps launched a rare tribunal Monday to publicly investigate disputed allegations that a special forces unit killed as many as 19 Afghan civilians after the military convoy was rammed by a car bomb.

The court of inquiry, an administrative proceeding last used by the Marine Corps more than 50 years ago, will focus on the actions of Maj. Fred C. Galvin, commander of the 120-person unit, and platoon leader Capt. Vincent J. Noble.

The officers were members of a Marine special operations company that opened fire March 4 along a crowded roadway in Nangahar province after an explosives-rigged minivan crashed into their convoy. No Marines were killed and only one was wounded.

Witnesses said the Marines fired indiscriminately at pedestrians and people in cars, buses and taxis in six locations along a 10-mile stretch of the road, according to a report issued by Afghanistan's Independent Human Rights Commission.

Why are US Marine Corps sending soldiers to military combat if they snap under pressure?.. I know I can't serve in the military, because of my psychical makeup... No I am not mad, but I do have some "issues" and therefore are out of armed forces.. But I do believe that the armed service in all country have enough experience to stop soldiers who elsewhere may have been send to a mental hospital for some treatment... Even that you can't test human for all thinkable thing, I really do believe that the armed forces in US as in many other country have the capacity to "take out" recruit who maybe can be a danger, both to the armed forces, or to civilians..

Or is it that so many soldiers now have trauma the armed forces are not seeing, before tragedies like that this reportage is mention?:.. I know many soldiers have taking a hwy loss to the mental health after many tours in zones who elsewhere have been called to dangerous..

I don't believe that US marines kill civilians just for the fun of it.. Even that I do believe UK soldiers, germans and others soldiers are better trained, and better in general than US marines. Even that US marines _is_ good soldiers.. (I may get into troubles with current or former Soldiers but that so be it...

This is not the first time american soldiers have killed civilians, in Iraq or in Afghanistan... But it is one of the few times as I know it, that US forces itself have been sending soldiers to court. For criminal behavior.. Other instances the soldiers have been send to the court AFTER the media and the world as large have given the story... Someone remember Abu Girab?:. And the pictures from the prison, where soldiers was posting as they was hunting game?:.. This Images Will survive long after the soldiers in the pictures are buried and dead...
