Poll: Americans Think U.S. On Wrong Track
Economy And The War Have Americans Voicing Pessimism About The Future Of The Country

Jan. 13, 2008

(CBS) Assessments of the current state of the nation are grim as Americans have begun to choose who will vie to be the country’s next president. 75% of Americans think the country is off on the wrong track - matching the highest number ever recorded in the CBS News/New York Times Poll - and approval of President Bush remains low.

Concern about the direction of the country is accompanied by growing alarm about the condition of the economy - now the country’s most important problem. Perceptions of the condition of the national economy continue to drop, and most Americans think the worst is yet to come.

Three in four Americans think the country is off on the wrong track, matching the highest number recorded in the twenty-five years since CBS News began asking the question. Only 19% say it is headed in the right direction, matching the all-time low reached last June.

Worries about the direction of the country coincide with a low job approval rating for the president. 29% of Americans approve of the way President Bush is handling his job as president. Approval has hovered around 30% for the past year.

1. Three-fourths of the country have had enough of the GOP's policies.
I'd say we're sitting pretty next November.

5. Never let your guard down
When it is thought that there can be no doubt about the outcome, think of Tyson and Buster Douglas.

You can never let your guard down when dealing with these "people". They are very good at what they do as evidenced by the 2000 and the 2004 non-election of bush.

If you get them on the ground, kick them in the nuts.....repeatedly or they will get up to hurt you.

6. That's not what the poll says
and the cowardly and complicit Congress with its DINO's fares no better.

I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised to see another Republican president.

7. There's a healthy percentage of that three-fourths who think a different Republican will fix it
Never forget that fact. We still need to work our butts off to GOTV and get our message out.

8. But In Actual Matchups With Actual Candidates, We're TIED!
Edited on Sun Jan-13-08 11:44 PM by AndyTiedye
and all ties and close races go to the Repigs thanks to the magic of Diebold.

The trouble is, our candidates aren't very good.

It is going to be a very tough race.

We're on the wrong track alright, but can anybody stop this train before…

16. sitting pretty is not the general picture
Sometimes, I wonder if the Republicans would just as soon take a bye on the coming election and leave the White House to the opposition, seeing as how the economy's faltering beyond the point of return - kind of like abandoning ship before it hits an approaching iceberg.

Even with all the added boost of the 100% borrowed war chest funds, currently fueling commerce, we're facing severe unmet fiscal needs not too far down the line.

3. Problem is, most Americans haven't figured out which track is the right one.
If we don't elect someone that will stop corporations from controlling our government, we will continue on this same fast track to fascist hell.

10. It is hardly likely that corporations will allow us to elect someone who will stop corporations from
controlling government. Many people do not understand the degree to which the corporate media is a corporate propaganda machine or the degree to which it affects us all. The internet is almost the only reason we have even a glimmer of hope. That and the disparity between personal experiences and official versions.

I have long thought that the marches in Washington, D.C. and elsewhere should have targeted media. To my knowledge only Code Pink has done that.

11. No shit. Unfortunately, the American People have 0% say in the governance of the nation
(it cannot appropriately be called "our" nation anymore, because we have nothing to do with it and the Ruling Class steals more and more from us as time goes on)

If you haven't noticed, Imperial Amerika, Russia, and China, all essentially have the same form of government now, though the Subjects of each respective totalitarian nation are treated differently, due to the varying traditions of freedom that have to be paid lip-service.

So, as long we we Imperial Subjects of Amerika don't test the bars of our prison, we are left alone to pretend we are still free, and still have a vote.
