Marine's Truck Driven To North Carolina Hotel On Monday
Source: The Raleigh Chronicle

MORRISVILLE, NC - A missing Marine that is accused of killing a female Marine may still be in North Carolina. Police discovered his pickup truck at a hotel half of a mile from the Raleigh airport yesterday. A clerk at that hotel said the truck had only been there since Monday afternoon and another witness told a TV station that the truck was not there for more than a day.
The discovery of the truck is part of a search for Marine Corporal Cesar Laurean who is wanted in the death of Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach, a fellow marine who was pregnant.

.....

The presence of Laurean's truck at a Morrisville hotel near the airport along with other details may mean he is nearby in the Raleigh or Durham area.
According to hotel workers at the scene, officers of the Wake County Sheriff's Office arrived this afternoon at the Microtel Inn located at 104 Factory Shops Drive in Morrisville off of Interstate 40 at exit 284. The 99 room hotel is only about half a mile from the Raleigh-Durham airport ..... police investigators towed the black Dodge extended cab pickup truck that is thought to belong to Corporal Cesar Laurean at about 4:35pm. The truck was towed back to Onslow County to be searched for clues.

.....

In a press conference on Monday, Onslow County Sherriff Ed Brown said that in addition to reports generated from the Raleigh area about possibly seeing Laurean's truck, the victim's ATM card was found in nearby Durham. According to Brown, Lauterbach's ATM card was found near the bus station in downtown Durham over the weekend.

With the discovery of Laurean's truck in Morrisville, which is just off of Interstate 40 connecting Raleigh and Durham, the likelihood that he was in the area recently certainly increases.

(AP) - Authorities say the key suspect in the slaying of a 20-year-old pregnant Marine told comrades he would flee to Mexico to avoid a conviction on rape charges.

Officials say the FBI is now working with Mexican authorities to track him down.

~snip~

Court documents filed this week by the FBI state that Laurean told members of his Marine Corps unit he would flee to Mexico if it appeared he would be found guilty of rape. Laurean's wife also told authorities she believed he would head to Mexico if he were in trouble.

The 21-year-old Laurean is a naturalized U.S. citizen who was born in Mexico and officials say he still has family there. Laurean is also wanted in North Carolina on a state arrest warrant for murder.

Two law enforcement officails speaking on the condition of anonymity say Laurean appears to have mailed letters to his wife in North Carolina. One official says that at least one was postmarked from Houston.
