Senators Consider Rebates for Retirees
Source: Associated Press

Retirees living off Social Security are frustrated that they won't get tax rebate checks through a bipartisan economic stimulus package before the House. Senate Democrats Friday began efforts to include them.

The House is planning to pass the measure as early as next week, leaving the Senate more than two weeks to pass its bill, reach and agreement with the House and Bush and meet Majority Leader Harry Reid's promise of wrapping it all up by Feb. 15.

Much debate centers on whether to extend unemployment benefits for jobless people whose benefits have run out. Some Democrats, such as Rep. Charles Rangel of New York, chairman of the powerful Ways and Means Committee, were livid that unemployment insurance was dropped by Pelosi in end-stage talks on Wednesday.

"Boehner told (Pelosi) very early on ... let's try to get something done here that the White House can agree on and so we can thrust it upon the Senate," said a senior House GOP aide. "The unspoken word was that she could jam this down Harry Reid's throat and I think she likes that idea."

1. They should do something for the retirees and unemployed.
We've been screwed over with the drug deal, we missed out on the last bunch of checks, most are on a fixed income which really gets hit when prices for everything raise like they have lately. The unemployed have become that way because of the government's disasterous policies for the last at least 8 years. If they can't see these facts, they all need to be replaced.

3. Also the disabled
The disabled who have to live on $600 a month in benefits haven't seen a damn thing so far.

The entire thing is just a big effort to gut the progressive taxation system.

4. That's me....
I collect Social Security Disability and even a little extra money would be greatly appreciated. As it stood, I wouldn't have gotten a dime. I paid taxes for almost 40 years, now they've forgotten all about me and others like me.

5. I guess I'm a hog: ""Pigs get fat. Hogs get slaughtered," said a top Senate Democratic staff aide. "
This is what they think of those that are retired, poor, on disabity or a veteran. They really don't give a damn do they?:

"Pigs get fat. Hogs get slaughtered," said a top Senate Democratic staff aide. "We're not interested in loading this up.

Since the above (most vulnerable) groups probably don't give money to campaigns the politicians don't need to ensure that we are fed.
Pelosi sides with Bush over the people that elected her.

"Senate Democrats appear confident they can muster the 60 votes needed to overcome procedural hurdles in front of efforts to boost unemployment benefits. If unemployment insurance is part of a Senate bill sent back over to the House, Pelosi would face a quandary: Should she stand by her deal with the President or side with the Senate?"

8. Money and value
It becomes clearer all the time that the current admin values the have mores and corporations. It does gives minimum value to all others well, most all others who work. Then there are those of us who don't have a job, who can't work, those of who are retired. We have a negtive value. It is clearer people in those groups do not have value to this admin. they will not be included. Will Bush veto a bill arriving for his sigature which includes those people who are not valued in our current society?

Heaping pot of :sarcasm: (tearing flesh) seasoned with cynicism

Will this make life better? :grr:

9. No one is mentioning Medicare D
and what impact it is having on those of us who have nothing but SS to live on. While drug companies are getting richer the elderly are suffering more and getting poorer. We are being slowly killed off without a mention.
