Detroit mayor’s aide quits amid texting scandal
Source: AP

DETROIT - Christine Beatty, Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's chief of staff, said Monday she is resigning amid allegations that she and the mayor lied under oath about an affair.

In a letter to Kilpatrick that was released by his office, Beatty said she believes she can no longer effectively carry out her duties. Her resignation takes effect Feb. 8.

"I painfully regret the devastation that the recent reports have caused to the citizens of Detroit, to my co workers, to the Mayor's family and to my family and friends," Beatty wrote in the letter.

1. It seems like that mayor is in constant trouble, yet he
always finds a way to keep his high paying position.

Must be nice.

accountability of our elected officials has stooped to a new level under this administration. When our top officials are not held accountable, why should anyone else feel they'll be held accountable?

On a side note. I was listening to the radio this AM (a local Detroit station) and they were saying that this woman is still sending text messages to the mayor.

11. You can thank Detroit voters for that
They reelected him in 2005 despite several scandals in his first term.

9. As I said in a previous post.
Throw the female under the bus and ride merrily on your way Kwame! Although I'm sure they will find another position for her within the city government. That's just the way it works. There were suspicious things during his first four years but he was voted in again. He obviously looks upon a struggling city as his personal petty cash.

10. He is just acting like Coleman Young did
I remember the time he was caught dealing in Krugerrands during apartheid, the Magnum Oil fiasco and the Greek town real estate debacle where he was getting huge kickbacks for making anyone opening a business having to go through his business to do it. He kept getting reelected year after year while the city fell from greatness, until they completely overhaul the established cronies from the top down she will continue to decline to nothing.
