Lebanese man killed in gunfire from Israel: sources

BEIRUT (Reuters) - A Lebanese man was killed on Sunday in south Lebanon when Israeli forces opened fire from northern Israel, security sources in Lebanon said.

An Israeli army spokesman said gunmen in Lebanon had opened fire on Israeli troops across the border. He said the incident involved three drug smugglers who had crossed into Israel.

"The soldiers fired back and hit the gunmen," the army spokesman said, adding the incident took place near the village of Ghajar.

The Lebanese security sources said there had been no gunfire from Lebanon. "The Israelis opened fire unilaterally," one of the sources said.
