Natural Gas Plant Erupts In Flames (Nashville)

WESTMORELAND, Tenn. - Crews are responding to a large fire at a propane plant near Westmoreland.

The fire is burning at Columbia Gulf Transmission on the border of Macon and Trousdale counties. The company operates a 4,200-mile natural gas pipeline across Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi and Louisiana, according to its Web site.

Flames are reportedly visible from as far away as 30-40 miles.

Mayor Ricky Woodard said he did not know if anyone was injured or if the fire affected other properties.

If this is on a major transmission pipeline, this could really drive up the price of Natural Gas very quickly, just what we all need right now, right?
