Obama Leads Clinton by Only 2 Delegates
Source: Associated Press

WASHINGTON - Three days after the voting ended, the race for Democratic delegates in Super Tuesday's contests was still too close to call. With nearly 1,600 delegates from Tuesday contests awarded, Sen. Barack Obama led by two delegates Friday night, with 91 delegates still to be awarded. Obama won 796 delegates in Tuesday's contests, to 794 for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, according to an analysis of voting results by The Associated Press.

Nearly a third of the outstanding delegates are from Colorado, a state where Obama won the popular vote. California, a state that Clinton carried, had 20 Democratic delegates still to be awarded. Neither state expected to have complete results before next week.

Obama won the popular vote in 13 states Tuesday, while Clinton won in eight states and American Samoa.

1. "only" ?
That he leads at all is a stunning reversal of fortune. For the past year it was gospel that Super Tuesday would be HRC's coronation.

10. Nevada, e.g., was essentially a win for Obama
The week before, the polls had him at 20 points down. On caucus day, he lost by 4 points, and -- because of the weird delegate by district rules that I still don't fully understand -- he actually left Nevada getting MORE delegates. And he picked them up in the heavily conservative northern part of the state.

24. That coronation may still be on the way...
...as the superdelegates can break either way. But it's a competition now, and I am glad that neither candidate seems able to walk away with the race. Now Clinton has to look better than Obama and McCain, and I think a little sweating would be good for her and for us.

2. This is confusing. I've been reading elsewhere that he was behind
in delegates.

Regardless, for a candidate who was lagging behind by more than 20 percentage points only two months ago, his rise to the top is stunning.

9. Why is it frightening? You want the unelectable candidate instead?
Some of us actually want to win this thing.

4. AP sure ain't happy that Senator Clinton's success is not a sure thing.
"Only". If that isn't sour grapes, I don't know what is.

Disclaimer: I don't have a favorite between the two, but I REALLY hate some of the posting I've seen purportedly on behalf of both candidates. And of course the MSM is shameful.

12. such a misleading headline...typical piling on by the MSM
When is the last time you heard anything good about HRC in the MSM? They have taking to spinning the delegate numbers because they are running out of bullets and she still leads Obama. It's so freaking pathetic.

14. Now take a look at post #4
where the poster feels the headline is skewed in the other direction.

Just sayin'. Hard not to get emotional, but let's try to keep our wits about us.

21. thanks for the welcome
I like both Obama and Clinton but it seems like the MSM is so anti-Clinton...I think it's a testament to the resolve and strength of Clinton political campaign to swim up stream and still lead while Obama gets a great headline to float him down stream...okay not great with the use of "only" but for the typical MSM doesn't lessen it that much.

I just want someone to kick the crap out of McCain!!! oh, and Huckabee

25. Those counts are only the Super Tuesday delegates that Obama leads by 2
Further on down in the article

In the overall race for the nomination, Clinton has 1,055 delegates, including separately chosen party and elected officials known as superdelegates. Obama has 998.
