Obama wins Nebraska caucuses
Source: MSNBC

TOPEKA, Kan. - Sen. Barack Obama was the winner of Saturday's Democratic caucuses in Nebraska, NBC News reported.

The win came as Obama and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton competed for Democratic convention delegates across three states on Saturday, locked in a marathon struggle for the party's presidential nomination after nationwide contests this week failed to produce a clear front-runner.

1. Yep. all 150 of the Democrats in the state voted for him.
I'm just kidding Nebraska Dems. It's just that I noticed some map of election '04 and every county in Nebraska went red. So you Democrats in Nebraska certainly do have your work cut out for you.

19. That's great!
Dems all over the USA are turning out and that's a great thing. I would love to see Nebraska turn blue. And heck, isn't Bob Kerrey a Dem from Nebraska? He's all right. And the last time I was in Omaha, I had a pretty good time. Went down by the river to some club where there was a Blues band and had a nice time. And the best steak I ever had was in North Platte ,Nebraska. So keep the faith Nebraska Dems, things will be getting better.

5. Obama is like a cult leader
If we pick Obama instead of Hillary our party has gone nuts. Hillary is by far the best candidate. I'm scared of Obama. He reminds me of a cult leader. Plus he has no experience.

Please God let Hillary pull this out. I'm starting to get scared.

6. Welcome to DU

I'm not sure you few posts equal you being a real Democrat, or a Republican troll. We will see if your still here after the nomination is secure. If you rally around the nominee, your in. Marta and I were Edwards, and caucused for Obama today.

7. After the 2000 election most people said they voted the way they did because they were scared.
People who voted for Bush said they voted that way because they were scared of what would happen if Gore won.

Fear as a motivator doesn't tend to lead to rational decisions.

I suggest that you read Obama's policy statements -- http://www.barackobama.com/index.php -- nothing at all like Jim Jones.

This is the first we have heard here of this 'cult of obama' thing. Perhaps you ought to put 50-100 more such posts all over the place in every thread that has anything at all to do with us politics. People need to know about this dangerous cult. Thank you so very much! Welcome to DU!

I'm not even going to dignify the cult remarks with a reply. I wouldn't make such an egregious accusation of any candidate.

As for a lack of experience? Hillary was elected to the Senate in 2000, and Barack in 2004. If four years makes or breaks a candidate, then we're in trouble with her, too.

23. Oh please............
If the political climate and environment were different than it is today, she would be my candidate in a heartbeat. She's strong, bright, and would make an excellent commander-in-chief.

I just don't feel comfortable about her now. Now.

I know these Rush lovin' knobs. All you have to do is mention "Hillary" and they start salivating. SHE is the Republican's best chance to rally their base with non-stop bashing. These propaganda spewing bastards are VERY GOOD at what they do. Wait for it...

I've learned a few things during the last 8 years. The koolaid is very strong my friend, and some seem reluctant to wean themselves from it. Ignorance can be fixed, "willful ignorance", not so much.

I may be "rolling the dice" on Obama, but I'm feeling pretty damn good about it. Gut.

And, ss far as being in a cult, I can't continue conversation about it. Flav-o-aid is pitching a bitch about not using their product, and they need me DOWNSTAIRS. Stat.

8. TERRIFIC article in the NY Times
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/09/us/politics/09cnd-campaign.html?_r=1&hp&oref=slogin

Mr. Obama received nearly 70 percent support in Nebraska, compared with 31 percent for Mrs. Clinton. He also had 67 percent support in Washington state caucuses, compared with 32 percent for Mrs. Clinton with returns tallied from about one-half of the state’s precincts. There were 78 delegates at stake, the largest single prize of the night. The two were also matched up in a primary in Louisiana and caucuses in the Virgin Islands.

With the Democratic contest so close, excitement ran high, as did turnout. In Nebraska, the Web site of the Omaha World-Herald reported that organizers at two caucus sites were so overrun by crowds that they abandoned traditional caucusing and asked voters to drop makeshift scrap-paper ballots into a box instead. Traffic backed up on Highway 370 in Sarpy County, south of Omaha, when thousands of voters showed up at a precinct where organizers had planned for hundreds.

In Washington, the Democratic Party reported record-breaking numbers of people attending caucuses, with early totals suggesting turnout would be nearly be nearly double what it was in 2004 — itself a record year — when 100,000 Democrats caucused.

12. Obama seems to have taken all three contests today.
I think this is going to be unresolved through the end of the primaries. Yikes.

In other news, Huckabee kicked McCain's ass in Kansas(?), Louisiana appears to be denying him a majority and Washington is too close to call. Hmmm... perhaps the reknucklian race is not as over as they wanted it to be? What happens to mittens three delegates? They might be needed after all.

14. Just read this in Baton Rouge's The Advocate
“It hasn’t been this close of a fight in a long time. This could even go to a convention floor fight,” said Louisiana Democratic Party Chairman Chris Whittington.

All Hell breaks lose if that is the case!!
