Huckabee Callenges Washington Caucus Results
Source: Fox News

Mike Huckabee is challenging the results of the Washington state Republican caucuses, his campaign announced Sunday, after accusing the state party chairman of calling the election for John McCain before all the votes were counted.

The campaign will be pursuing a full investigation, including sending in lawyers to join those already on the scene in the state, officials told FOX News.

Washington State Republican Party Chairman Luke Esser announced late Saturday that McCain had won the 2008 Republican caucuses in the state with 87.2 percent of precincts reporting. McCain had 25.5 percent over Huckabee’s 23.7 percent in that race.

...snip...

Ed Rollins, Huckabee campaign chairman, directly challenged Esser’s move, saying the count was incomplete because the other 12.8 percent of precincts could tip the scales since McCain was beating Huckabee by only a couple hundred votes.

13. yup...it's a bitch...
counting votes that can't be counted. I can't wait for the general election, when all those no paper Diebold's that are still in use do their thing. Who will we blame then? Nobody cares until it's 'their' candidate, but of course then it's too late. Some states have already implemented standard recounts of a percentage of the vote after each election..I think 14. It's just the other 37 that are susceptible. But even that might not be enough if elected officials continue to take the ballot boxes home with them. Then there's the registration fiasco that we will encounter in state after state, people being dropped from the voter rolls, and voter suppression. Who will we blame then?

6. Huh?
I thought I'd read somewhere that McCain came in last - that Ron Paul took first, followed by Huckabee, then McCain.

Mebbe I was dreaming?

15. Interesting
I was curious as to why the WA vote totals had been stalled at 87-percent. They just stop counting when they think the outcome won't change? (And, in this case, perhaps could still have changed...) That doesn't seem particularly smart.

16. Huckabee won't concede (WA) state; GOP resuming delegate count
Source: Seattle Times

The results of the state Republican caucuses were called into question today after presidential candidate Mike Huckabee challenged the party's declaration that Arizona Sen. John McCain had won the delegate count.

Huckabee's campaign took issue with the fact that Washington state Republican Party Chairman Luke Esser called the race Saturday night with 87 percent of the precincts counted. At that point, McCain was ahead of Huckabee by 242 delegates out of the 13,000 counted, Esser said. The Huckabee campaign contends there were another 1,500 or so delegates not counted.

In the face of the Huckabee protest, the state Republican Party quickly resumed its count today, a bit sooner than it had planned.

18. Wasn't there, don't know, but, it does seem as if some kind of uncustomary
procedure was at play in the Pukes' Washington contest.

I really hate having to speak in defense of Mike Huckabee, but at the democratic process level, it looks like they pulled levers on some trapdoors and some of his votes fell in.

Huck led by a couple of points all night, and as soon as McCain showed a lead, they stopped counting and called the race!

25. I'd protest too.
That's a razor thin margin and I'd assume many of the late reporting caucus locations were rural areas most likely to break in favor of Huckabee.

I'm not some fan of his but it disturbs me how Republicans like to stop counting in convenient places.
