Democratic Voters Dwarf Republicans in ‘Potomac Primary’
Source: WSJ

Democratic voters in the three states that participated in Tuesday’s primaries outnumbered Republicans by a more than two-to-one margin, further underscoring the enthusiasm edge the Democratic presidential contenders have in this race.

The District of Columbia and Maryland are home to more registered Democrats than Republicans, with 74% of district residents and 55% of Maryland residents identifying with the party. Virginia doesn’t make those statistics available, according to the Almanac of American Politics.

Still, a glance at the numbers provides a stark contrast. Vote counts haven’t been finalized in the three jurisdictions, but 114,000 Democratic ballots were cast in Washington, D.C., compared to 6,000 for Republicans. In Maryland, 973,000 Democratic ballots were cast compared to 485,000 for Republicans, and in Virginia, 740,000 Democratic ballots were cast compared to 287,000 for Republicans.

In total, 1,827,000 Democratic votes were cast yesterday compared to 778,000 for Republicans. Sen. Barack Obama, who swept all three contests, earned 620,000 votes in Virginia alone — more than the combined total of the six Republicans who appeared on the ballot.

2. Hope there weren't too many ringers.
We need real Democrats, not wolves in sheep's clothing. (Or sheep in wolf's clothing?)

6. What could they possibly be ringing?
Whichever Democratic candidate they would vote for would be a huge benefit to America. I haven't made any decision on which candidate would be better for America but which ever one gets the nod I will be delighted...It matters not which Republican is their opponent. America is determined to make a switch and change our disasterous direction.

3. There is an obvious problem with that article
The Republican primary is effectively finished. When combined with the bad weather, Republican voters simply don't have much reason to go to the polls anymore.

Granted, the suggested greater enthusiasm on the part of Democrats has been present all along. However, to mention only that enthusiasm in explaining the now-greater differences in turnout, ignores this basic fact.

5. Considering only 51% of Repugs in a recent poll say they support McCain
A lot of Repugs will stay home in November.

The difference in the numbers now is relevent.
