Tiger attack survivors seek records of S.J. cops who arrested them
Source: SF Chronicle

SAN JOSE -- Attorneys for the two brothers who survived a Christmas Day tiger attack at the San Francisco Zoo said today they intend to seek the personnel records of San Jose officers who arrested the men Sept. 7 in a separate incident in which they allegedly scuffled with police.

(snip)

The brothers were arrested after they allegedly refused to cooperate with officers who reported seeing them chasing two men down the street, according to police reports. Authorities have never located the men.

Paul Dhaliwal is accused of hitting an officer in the chest with his forearm as the officer tried to restrain him, leading to the battery charge. He stopped resisting only when an officer held a stun gun to his neck and threatened to use it, according to a police report.

Kulbir Dhaliwal cursed at officers while kicking the security partition in a squad car, forcing police to pull him out and put him in leg restraints, the police report says.

9. Problem is, if they sue the city
wouldn't that obligate them to testify and submit to cross-examination? So far, they haven't given any explanation at all regarding the zoo incident.

18. one of the items found in the car
when SF police finally got to search it, was a bottle of fake urine, i.e., one of those dubious head shop products designed to extract moolah from the wallets of the not-very-smart.

13. Yeah, who needs a trial
Or any sort of legal due process. Let's just assume tigers are infallible instruments of justice, kind of like President Bush feels about waterboarding torture.

17. I guess I believe in the rule of law
And that nobody can know the facts of a case, especially before there is any sort of a court case (which doesn't guarantee truth, but at least it puts witnesses under oath).

I am old fashioned about fairness, so you'll forgive me if I feel empathy for people who have been tried and convicted in the media and in the court of public opinion and prejudice, without due process.

And I do think tigers are magnificent creatures. I saw one at a zoo, and felt shame and sadness that people imprison them like that, though it may be necessary to try to preserve the species.

But Tigers can be nearly infallible instruments of nature ....

What do you get when you combine Tiger with ignorant fool ? : Fool Tartar .....

Sorry ... But complaints about justice and due process seem to get lost in the humid quietude of the jungle .... Stupid people can inflame and taunt large carnivores, but sometimes they pay a price for that ....

THAT is nature .... not injustice ....

They are lucky the Tiger didn't 'due process' their asses into his gut ....

I say: Let them come to court ..... Let's see what 'Due Process' does for them ....

24. A zoo is not a jungle
Nor is it untrammeled nature. It is a highly controlled human environment. I think their due process, when the court case comes about, will include a hefty settlement by the zoo.

15. Forearms can do far more damage than fists...
In a martial art called Muay Tai the forearms and knees can be quite devastating.

23. I disagree.
If the tiger had killed them both, little (if any) of the truth about
those jerks would have come out and they'd have been the "tragic victims".

This way, everyone with eyes & ears can see *exactly* what those two are.

Punish the zoo too if they share the blame for the event but don't award
a penny to those two turds.

25. They will sue for civil rights violations
Police brutality for sure , unless those officers have spotless records. If their records are clean, then successfully suing the cops and city becomes more difficult.
