Bush says Congress putting US in danger
Source: AP

WASHINGTON - President Bush said Friday that "our country is in more danger of an attack" because of Congress' failure to extend a law granting the government authority to spy on foreign phone calls and e-mails that pass through the United States.

The president and Vice President Dick Cheney met with Republican congressional leaders in the Oval Office to discuss the impasse with the Democratic-led House. The president said lawmakers had left for a 12-day recess without acting on the law, which expires at midnight Saturday. He said Congress should act quickly on the measure as soon as lawmakers return.

Bush's argues that without the extension, the intelligence community will not have the tools they need. Democrats, equally adamant, accuse the president of fear-mongering and say he has the authority he needs to intercept terrorist communications, even if the law expires.

"American citizens must understand, clearly understand that there's still a threat on the homeland. There's still an enemy which would like to do us harm," Bush said. "We've got to give our professionals the tools they need, to be able to figure out what the enemy is up to so we can stop it."

"By blocking this piece of legislation, our country is more in danger of an attack," the president said.

2. The biggest danger is that telecom stock will drop from huge
contingent liabilities from getting their asses sued off for illegally wiretapping.

Always look for a corporate money motivation for anything Bush does and you will find the answer.

3. It's the Republicans
Once again, the Republicans and the White House are willing to put the welfare of corporations ahead of citizens.

5. Another tantrum.
If he doesn't get his way, watch
another 'terra' attack happen on
US soil, and he will blame the Dems and
promote Repukes as the 'responsible
adult' side of the Hill. This all
to keep a repuke in the White House.

6. Why does he suppose anyone believes this?????
Haven't we all seen too many movies not to believe that when we "need" to spy on someone we can? Do you ever remember a movie where the CIA or the NSA are saying, "Damn! We need that subpoena and we need it NOW!" when they're trying to catch the "bad" guys? Or am I missing something?

It's obvious that this is for the stuff they shouldn't be doing in the first place...spying on political enemies, and if need be, you and me.

but people like my grandmother are furious at dems, and even some "dems" i know don't really understand what's going on. all they have for news is cnn and msnbc, which they believe to be completely truthful as they are not fox. but still they see it as grandstanding at the end of bush's presidency since they don't even know what the hell FISA even is or how bad the wiretapping thing is, etc, and seem to want to just focus on the election, but can't wait till the nightmare is over.

(speaking of granny, i don't know what happened. in the last year and a half, when i visit, fox news is blaring, and we've suddenly become confined to the couch, 5 feet from the tv, rather than exchanging pleasantries on the peaceful back porch as we used to. now i cringe, as she smiles and agrees with the television, crazy eyed. i guess this started back when i told her i was campaigning for stacey tallitsch (D) against bobby jindal (P for puke)- we'd never discussed politics before, and it has remained completely unspoken, except in the form of email forwards full of limbaughsian rantings and blatherings and demands that i forward to ten friends or i negate my credibility in terms of patriotism, that she was incredibly disappointed.

anyway, point being, she believes the word of fox to be the gospel truth, just like her bible, which actually commands in a little known scroll in an unpublished book- first and second foxes- thoust shallst beliefeth the testimony of billst o'rileyst andst seanst insanity and spreadst to your gandchildrenst to saveth them from satanic tribes called "dems," which is short for "demons." st.)

7. and the AP just prints it as though there were some truth to it
that is half the problem right there. If the AP would actually practice journalism, and call him on this bogus statement, he wouldn't be able to make such ludicrous statements, and we wouldn't have much of the trouble we have now.

12. Congress is putting us in danger.
There is a very dangerous lame duck in the White House, who wants to do us harm.

And every day that goes by without congress impeaching him, they're putting us in danger.

13. This country has been in more danger of attack since this
bonehead got into office!

Collecting information on US citizens will not place this nation into more danger of attack, it denies people their basic right to be secure in their property, both physical and intellectual. bush is an idiot...and FWIW...how come the most secretive administration want transparency for citizens while sitting in a bunker mentality.

it was a bad law from the start, and now that it is expiring, (but can be renewed for a time w/the stroke of bush's pen), he has the audacity to cry "foul"...the man makes me sick.

Or if the public sees through him and is tired of being frightened by him. Let's hope that's the case.
