2. Seven years and we almost have the capital under control!
In a hundred years, I bet we can make Baghdad completely secure. By then, all the Iraqis will be dead and we can make Iraq the 51st state!

4.  Mortars near Baghdad airport kill 2, rockets struck Green Zone
Mortar rounds slammed into a workers' housing complex near Baghdad's international airport on Monday, killing two people and wounding 10, a witness said.

(snip)
About 13 rockets also struck the U.S.-protected Green Zone Monday afternoon, but no casualties were immediately reported, according to an Interior Ministry official. The officials also declined to be identified because they weren't authorized to release the information.

U.S. Embassy and military officials did not immediately respond to a query about the reports.

BAGHDAD, Feb 18 (Reuters) - Three people were killed and 15 wounded when a barrage of mortars landed near Baghdad's international airport on Monday, the Iraqi military said.

It was one of the deadliest such attacks in months in the capital.

Major-General Qassim Moussawi, spokesman for Iraq's military in Baghdad, said the mortar bombs hit the mainly Sunni Khadhra district to the west of the airport in the south of the city.

Mortar attacks were a regular occurrence in the capital but have fallen dramatically in recent months, mirroring a general fall in violence across Iraq.

Iraqi Capital Rocked By Mortar Blasts - AFP

BAGHDAD (AFP)--A barrage of mortar rounds rocked Baghdad at dusk on Monday, with some falling near the international airport and others in the fortified Green Zone, officials and witnesses said.

The blasts, which could be heard across Baghdad, prompted guards at checkpoints near the airport to take cover, an AFP correspondent said.

U.S. military base Camp Victory is located beside the airport and is often the target of mortar and rocket attacks.

An Iraq Defense Ministry official said that 10 mortar rounds landed in Baghdad's highly fortified Green Zone, which houses Iraqi government offices and foreign embassies.

Five killed in Baghdad rocket barrage 13 minutes ago

BAGHDAD (AFP) - A barrage of rockets slammed into Baghdad's international airport and an adjoining US military base Monday, killing five civilians and wounding 16, including two US soldiers, officials and witnesses said.

The deaths and injuries of the civilians occurred when Katyusha rockets crashed into a workers' housing complex within the perimeter of the airport, residents said.

They said women and children were among the dead and injured. Many houses were damaged.

"Eight Iraqis, including six children, were taken to a coalition force medical clinic for treatment," the US military said in a statement.

It said rockets also struck areas of Camp Victory US military base adjoining the airport.

Six suspects were arrested in the immediate aftermath of the attack, the military said.
