US says missed intelligence after spy act expired
Edited on Fri Feb-22-08 06:25 PM by louis-t
Source: Yahoo News

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. spy agencies have missed intelligence in the days since terrorism surveillance legislation expired, officials told Congress on Friday, but a top Democrat accused the administration of "fear mongering."

Mukasey and McConnell gave no details of the missed intelligence. They told Reyes, however, some communications firms "have delayed or refused compliance with our requests to initiate new surveillance of foreign intelligence targets."

Most companies intend to cooperate for the time being but have "deep misgivings" about continuing, they said.

1. How do they know they've missed it? Are they still spying?
How can you miss something if you can't see/hear/etc. it?

How could they possibly know what they missed or when they missed it?

15. I can only presume it has something to do with those missing emails that
they never wrote. Or maybe something to do with the crimes they didn't commit but which weren't really crimes anyway. Or the torture that we don't do except for when we do it since it's not really torture anyway.

Ow.

I can't keep this up much longer. It hurts my head.

9. You forgot they can sense when they miss something.
Edited on Fri Feb-22-08 06:40 PM by LiberalFighter
The problem is trying to figure out what they missed.

But if they can truly sense when they miss something they should be able to sense who might be possible threats and their connections and get the necessary warrants. I guess they can't make sense of the sense they have or the sense it more than they can sense.

Ahem, did I mention I'm a castrating, man-hating, feminist, too?

Edited on Fri Feb-22-08 06:38 PM by santamargarita
Bush says the Democrats have put our country more in danger of an attack by letting the Protect America Act lapse. This claim is nonsense. The 30 year old Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act gives the executive branch all the power it needs to spy on terrorists.

The choice between FISA and the Protect America Act has nothing whatsoever to do with terrorism, at least not from foreign terrorists. Bush and his brownshirts object to FISA, because the law requires Bush to obtain warrants from a FISA court. Warrants mean that Bush is accountable. Bush and his brownshirts argue that accountability is an infringement on the power of the president.

If they missed some intelligence, then someone needs to be fired.

Because it's PERFECTLY LEGAL to TAP ANY COMMUNICATION LINE when you have A WARRANT which is GRANTED EVEN RETROACTIVELY by the notoriously lenient FISA court.

The telecoms DO NOT have a right to refuse if they know a FISA warrant is forthcoming.

34. communications firms delaying or refusing to break the law
Too. F'ing. Bad.

The only possible reason retroactive immunity is needed is if laws were broken. And if companies are standing up against this corrupt and treasonous administration that is something to celebrate, not bemoan. If Mr. Magoo and McConnell are too damn lazy to get a FISA warrent, then THEY are the reason that intellgence has been missed, not that there is somthing wrong with the existing laws.

39. If they want accurate information, why not open a DU account like anyone else?
Of course automated data-mining is the EASY way, but why not make them work for it by forcing them to physically read every post - including the ones in GD-P?

They could also open up their chock-full-o' Terra-ist spy and unAmerican activities Sibel files, but that too would require actual work and offend the boss's sense of privacy.

There is no end to the work involved in dismantling that stupid Constitution.
