Ron Paul Says He Won't Try To Run As An Independent
Source: NBC - KXAN

Maverick Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul said this weekend he won't get back into the race for the White House as an independent candidate once a GOP nominee is solidified.

The ten-term congressman from Texas has became a fundraising phenomenon, but he lags in the delegate race behind front runner and likely nominee Senator John McCain.

During the campaign, Paul brought in a record $6 million in one day, and $18 million in less than three months, though he still registers in single digits in most polls.

1. He'd get more votes as a Libertarian from disgruntled Pugs.

2. My county went 72% for GWB in 2004.
I've seen absolutely no yard signs for any Republican candidate except Ron Paul and only one bumper sticker for any one besides Ron Paul. It astounds me.

3. A friend from Arkansas said the very same thing.
She said Huckabee was really unpopular there and aside from her Kucinich lawn sign they were all for RP.

4. Outside of the Blimps, he hasn't wasted that much money..
So there is a warchest there for him to run on another ticket. If he makes a run under the Libertarian Flag he can backtrack this comment. I see him making a run for it even if he is in single digits around the nation. He will take the 5% of Libertarian Republicans away from McCain and help Obama or HRC.

5. He can't run as a Libertarian
Most states have "sore loser" election laws which state that if you run for an office in the primaries of the two major parties you can't then run for that same office as the candidate of another party (or as an independent). Paul is not going to run because he can't.
