Ferrum College (Near Rocky Mount, VA) Under Lockdown

Ferrum College near Rocky Mount, Virginia is currently under lockdown after the school's emergency alert system was activated Tuesday morning.

Ferrum's Web site confirms an emergency alert was issued just after 8 a.m. Tuesday, and that the school is under a lockdown. Students are being asked to stay indoors.

There are preliminary reports that police are on campus searching for a suspicious person. School officials confirm there are NO injuries, but say the school will remain under lockdown until further notice.

5. I went there for two years
at least that is what they tell me.

I haven't been back in a loooong time I hear that they really made huge changes to the campus and pretty much everything. When I went there it had just become a 4 year school and was mostly known as a Junior College for football players to get grades up before going to other schools.


Really nice place, in terms of outdoors but there wasn't much to do there except go to Tech and Radford on the weekends.

4. When did we get in the habit of speaking about colleges in the same way as prisons?
I thought "lockdown" was something that happened in prisons, where they have cells and locks and guards.
