North Korea invites Eric Clapton to Rock Pyongyang
Source: Reuters

LONDON (Reuters) - North Korea has invited Eric Clapton to rock its capital, a spokesman for the Communist country's embassy in London said on Tuesday.

"We have recently sent a letter to Mr Clapton's agent inviting him to Pyongyang for a concert. And I do think that if he plays a concert in Pyongyang it will be a good opportunity for the Korean people to understand Western music," he said.

"He is a world famous guitarist. Eric Clapton is quite well known not only in the UK but in the entire world. So it would be fantastic if he would come to play in Pyongyang."

Such a concert would make the British 62-year-old Grammy-winning singer of "Layla" and "Cocaine" the first Western rock star to play Pyongyang. A spokeswoman for Clapton's record label, Warner Music, declined to comment. His agent was not immediately available for comment.

Supposedly Kim Jong Il's son, who has studied abroad, is a fan of Clapton's. As far as the rest of the North Koreans, one has to wonder if they even know a single song.

7. Please say no, Eric. Please, please....
In a nation where people either starve or eat tree bark while its xenophobic leadership works on nuclear weapons, North Korea this week hosted the New York Philharmonic with its usual ostentatious displays of excess taste and military precision that made me sick:

Philharmonic Stirs Emotions in North Korea

Familiar Bonds, Unfamiliar Land

I don't care how much they're offering to pay you, Eric. Since the North Koreans who most deserve to hear your music don't have a chance in hell of actually getting a ticket, tell his esteemed Fearless and Exalted Mr. Kim to go watch his Godzilla movies and drink himself to death.
