Bombings hit southern Russian town

MAKHACHKALA, Russia - Two bombings hit a police convoy Sunday in a town in southern Russia near Chechnya, leaving an unspecified number of dead and injured.

The blasts — coming on the same day as Russia's presidential elections — came in quick succession in Khasavyurt, near the Chechen border, according to the police press service for the Dagestan region.

It said casualty figures, and the reason for the attack, were not immediately clear.
