Recall covers Illinois, Michigan, Indiana and Ohio
Posted: Monday, March 03, 2008 at 9:49 a.m.

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. (AP) -- Meijer Incorporated is voluntarily recalling more than 2,000 pounds of frozen entrees from stores in four states, including Illinois.

The Michigan retailer says federal officials notified it Friday that testing showed possible contamination with listeria. That's a microorganism that can cause illness or death.

No illnesses have been reported. Meijer also pulled the product from shelves in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio.

The recall affects 12-ounce packages of Discover Cuisine Red Curry Chicken and Jasmine Rice. The packages have a Canadian establishment number of 302 on the front and "use by" date of Dec. 18, 2008.

The entrees may be returned for a refund or exchange.

1. Hmmmm...
A few weeks ago our Meijer practically dumped their frozen meal section. I wonder if there's a connection to their story. They also replaced their freezer cases with what I thought could be more energy efficient models.

4. Why?
I was quite happy when they came to Indiana and like them.

What's your experience?

5. Meijer is a good company
They are a union company, they give a lot of money to Michigan charities, and they are sponsoring a program across the state to get people to read Hemingway books.

The fact that they are voluntarily recalling something speaks to their high standards. Other companies would continue to sell the crap until they were forced to recall it.

6. I worked for Meijer and they treat their employees like shit! They are union in name only,
The "contract" they have is a form letter contract, and to be quite frank I work for Wal-mart now and have MUCH better wages and benefits than I had at Meijer. I am not the only one who thinks this there are quite a few who jumped ship at the same time because of the way they were treated there and the management there was worse than being in jr. high.

8. That's a shame.
I truly thought they would be better.

I'm glad you've found something that treats you more like a human being.

9. Thank You for that, although it's still not a "pleasure" to go to work,
at least it's not totally unbearable.

3. outside of vegitables, I quit buying food from the frozen section over 20 years ago
at the time it was because it was the most expensive section in the store. No Gino's Pizza Rolls or Chicken Teriaki in a bag for us.
