Different Cheney Set to Campaign in 2004
PASADENA, Calif. — In the 2000 presidential campaign, Dick Cheney was the grownup. This time, his role is more complicated.

George W. Bush was a newcomer to national politics in the last campaign. Cheney had been President Ford's chief of staff, represented Wyoming in Congress and was Defense secretary for Bush's father.

In the three years since Bush and Cheney took office, their images have been rewritten. Bush has managed wars and learned the ways of Washington. Cheney has gone underground, where he works on a few issues of his choosing and warns of worst-case events in the war on terrorism.

(snip)

"If you're a rich, fat white guy, he's your hero," says Paul Begala, a former adviser to President Clinton and frequent Bush critic. "But he's a very controversial guy. This is what comes with being the most powerful vice president in history."

(snip)

Cheney speaks in a hurtling monotone rumble. His 38-minute speech and question-and-answer session at the World Affairs Council was interrupted by applause just three times. But he usually tosses some wry humor into his remarks. He assured NASA workers, "Don't worry, I did not touch the controls."

4. This is more promotion of W's "LEADERSHIP!!!!!!"
Even a casual observer doesn't believe that and thanks to Paul O'Neill what we already knew has been confirmed.

7. What a crap article.
Cheney went underground after 9/11 to avoid the focus and camera on him because he knew his crap decisions were responsible for the big hole in the net that allowed those terrorists to do what they did. And underground he continued being the hidden hand. I hope he comes out in the open where we can boo and jeer him. If I had to cast a man as Mr. Potter in "It's a Wonderful Life" he would look like Dick Cheney.

9. You mean the one
who has spent over 75% of his "work" time fundraising. It makes me sick thinking what the media would do to Gore if he had done the same thing. Come to think of it, where is the outrage over his get together with an Extreme Court "justice" over the weekend?

10. I'm glad he's running
He's a liability to them. If he'd had "health problems" and they'd picked Quayle to replace him, it would put a nice, new face on their "administration."

Run, Dick, run! :P

11. Cheny never really says anything - picked
up on that in O'Neills book and other books in the past. It's called deniability - and bush has that too.

12. I was hoping they were talking about a replicant android Cheney
An emotionless machine optimized for cold calculations on world domination, utilizing only one foreign policy routine: war.

Oh wait, how could you tell him from the real Cheney?

13. This is one of the
funniest things I have read in a long time: "Bush has managed wars and learned the ways of Washington. Cheney has gone underground, where he works on a few issues of his choosing and warns of worst-case events in the war on terrorism."

Bush* manages wars??????????

Cheney works on a few issues?????????????

OK. If you say so.

running things and giving direction to Cheney instead of the other way around.

16. debate?
will this guy even be ABLE to debate anyone? He's got misstatements and out and out LIES hanging around all the over the place. He currently speaks publicly only in carefully controlled venues. I'm starting to worry about what reason the Repubs are going to dream up to keep Cheney out of debates altogether and Monkeyboy from having to do too many of them. If either of these clowns gets out there an tries to debate Clark, Dean, Kerry, etc, they will get creamed. About the only Dem running that would lose a debate to them would be Lieberman.

20. Like they should be worried that he might touch the controls or that he
HAS touched the controls in the PAST. Where was he when Challenger failed?

Really though I hope he campaigns 20 hour days, 7 days a week this year. If he lives through it, by the end, no one will want to vote for him and Junior after that much exposure.

...........
He is the father of lies, Beelzebub, Lucifer.

I would give anything to somebody who could hack the sound system and replace the music used when he comes on stage...
(heavy, dark orchestral sound): "Dum-dum-dummm-dum=de-dum, dum-de-dum,

name the music, please
