Six people were killed, including two children, and another three children wounded in a shooting Monday in Memphis, Tennessee, authorities said.

Police and fire units responded Monday after six people were killed in Memphis, Tennessee.

Memphis Fire Department spokeswoman Melanie Young said firefighters responded to a 911 call at a home at 6:11 p.m. Monday when the bodies and wounded children were found.

The wounded children -- a 7-year-old boy, a 10-month-old girl and a 4-year-old whose gender wasn't immediately known -- were transported to Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center.

They were in the emergency room being treated for gunshot wounds, said hospital spokeswoman Jennilyn Utkov.

4. Bless them
Wow, that is awful. It seems like several sad incidents like this have happened in the last several days. Like the family killings in Texas, and the shooting in Florida. Peace be with them all.

5. Any statement from the NRA yet?
Are they planning a rally or anything? This lunatic was just exercising his Constitutional right to keep and bear arms, right? :sarcasm:

Another senseless waste in Armed Amerika.

11. I didn't say "murders". I said "guns kill".
That includes murders, suicides, murder/suicides,
numbnuts who shoot themselves or others accidentally,
and all those cases where some toddler blows another
toddler's brains out.

But thanks for trying to inject gun nut propaganda;
better luck next time.

12. law of unintended consequences
Edited on Tue Mar-04-08 08:21 AM by bossy22
well toddlers killing themsevels with guns i think equals around 50- their are only about 700 accidental shooting deaths. including suicides in your tally is silly because it is not something that would stop with the end of the use of the firearm- hell they may use their car and their garage- and end up killing 4 innocent people as the CO suffocated their family. This happened in my town 10 years ago. I also responded to a call a year ago where the father was doing the same thing- luckily we got everyone out but the kids were breathing in 800 ppm CO (close to getting deadly).

so beware the law of unintended consequences

one last thing- over 1,000 kids die in drownings from personal pools

sorry to knock you off your high horse, better yet next time trying to saddle up

16. Ahh, then I'll answer: 10 murder suicides per week, almost *ALL* by men using guns.
Edited on Tue Mar-04-08 09:42 AM by Tesha
http://www.gunguys.com/?p=2713
These grisly killings are most often perpetuated by men, though
not always. Men seek to kill their estranged wives, girlfriends or
partners for a host of reasons: a continuation of domestic abuse,
a breakup or divorce, mental illness, substance abuse, loss of a
job, oftentimes a compounding of these factors.

A more "global reason" is simply that some men seek to dominate
and intimidate the women in their life. When these men lose control
they use their gun to maintain their dominance, even by extinguishing
their partner's life and then killing themselves.

It's perhaps the darkest side of America's gun culture where men
seek to maintain their position of authority through the barrel
of a gun. Most horrific are the incidents when young children
are also killed during a murder-suicide.

...

However, according to the Violence Policy Center, more than 1,200
people die each year as a result of a murder-suicide.

More than 10 murder-suicides, almost all by gun, occur each week
in the United States, according a study by the VPC.

The study used national news stories and Internet survey tools to
collect incidents nationwide from Jan. 1, 2005, through June 30, 2005.

During this six-month period, at least 591 Americans died in 264
murder-suicides, and almost all murder-suicides (92 percent)
involved a firearm.

...

Since murder-suicides are largely fueled by armed men in America who
are attached their guns, maybe we should start a campaign encouraging
women to ask their first dates if they own guns or not? Assuming a
"gun guy" answers honestly, it would at least give women vital
information about their prospective partner. It just might be the
best way to affect and change our gun culture.

17. gunguys
quite a good source- sorry if i dont take it without a large grain of salt- they often use misleading statistics and often stretch groups- for example- the VPC considered a 25 year old a kid in their "guns and kids" study.

I prefer more unbiased studies

this is the same reason i dont trust statistics on the NRA website
