Melanie Morgan out at KSFO
Source: San Francisco Peninsula Press Club

"Melanie Morgan has lost her job as morning co-host at KSFO-AM 560 as part of a cost-cutting measure by the conservative station's new owner, Citadel Broadcasting....
"Morgan and Rodgers have been widely credited with starting the recall of Gray Davis. In 2006, she was put in the national spotlight for saying New York Times editor Bill Keller should be executed if convicted of treason for revealing government secrets in his newspaper. Most recently, Morgan led protesters who countered demonstrators who wanted to close a Marine Corps recruiting office in Berkeley. Morgan co-founded Move America Forward, an activist pro-troop organization, which has defended American military intervention abroad."

2. Great news
Problem is she'll get a gig elsewhere. But always nice to know an asshole gets fired every now and then.

6. "an activist pro-troop organization"
Again with the "pro troop-anti troop" nonsense.

The San Francisco Peninsula Press Club can bite me.

8. As I posted in the other thread about this:
I just lost my job --but I didn't lose a child...

Written by Melanie Morgan
Monday, 03 March 2008

Don't drink and compute. That's the advice I always give myself, which I have promptly ignored.

But a couple of thoughts tonight as I swill a few adult beverages.

I lost a job today, but I didn't lose a child.I didn't lose a limb. And I didn't lose my passion for our troops.

My great friend Debbie Lee, whose son Marc Alan Lee, the first Navy Seal to die in the fighting in Iraq, called me to console me about being laid-off today.

10. Was She Syndicated?
I'm guessing not.

You can rejoice and cheer about this, but the most likely reason she's been canned is so that Citadel can put a syndicated show in there, in short order. The station is top 10 in the market and their new morning show looks like it will be anything but controversy (read: press) generating in an age where lack of publicity = death. I'd give them 1 quarter, 2 max, before Citadel cans the remaining.

11. YAY!!!!!
There was quite a bit of commotion here in L.A. where one of the on-air people and a SLEW of others in management at both the AM and FM got the axe. Seems somebody at Citadel is just not managing things very well - evidently WAY overpaid Disney for the stations. Greedy fuckers.

There's this website that covers radio people and goings-on here in L.A. (www.laradio.com) that ran this piece this morning:

(snip)

(March 4, 2008) It started last Friday and continued through the beginning of this week. A reported 140 employees fired from the Citadel Group. As the wildfire spread across both local and the national radio landscape, a whispered question grew louder and louder over the weekend. “Citadel ceo Farid Suleman must be fired,” said the radio pundits.

In Jerry Del Colliano’s daily column at http://insidemusicmedia.blogspot.com, Jerry said the Farid has earned the right to get pink slipped for many, many reasons.

(snip)

Appropriately enough, the headline to this extended item was "Should Citadel CEO Farid Suleman Be Fired?"

My answer is a RESOUNDING "YES!!!!" And yes, I'm SHOUTING!!!

Just SICK of this! I've seen too many of my friends and colleagues get canned because some numb-nuts short-term-profits bean-counter
farther up the food chain behaved like a short-sighted idiot cheapskate. Occasionally, such human excrement actually does have to pay for it, but that's the exception, not the norm. In my opinion, the decision-makers who beget this type of crash should be the FIRST to walk the plank.

:grr:  :nuke:
