Monroe family threatened over video of Marine tossing pup
Source: Seattle Times

A Monroe family received threatening telephone calls this week after a video apparently showing a Marine throwing a puppy over a cliff in Iraq surfaced on the Internet.

Since it was first posted early this week, the video has become an Internet sensation, gaining widespread attention from news sites, bloggers and animal-rights activists. Hundreds of people have left comments on various Web postings of the video. Some posters have included the Snohomish County home address and telephone number of the alleged puppy-thrower, as well as the names of his family members.

"We learned about the ... video and one of our deputies went to check on the family," said Rebecca Hover, spokeswoman for the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office. "They said they had received threatening phone calls earlier."

The U.S. Marine Corps said it is investigating, but would not confirm the man's identity. In the video, a person off-camera uses the Marine's last name.

The family's telephone number has been disconnected, and a woman at the home declined to speak with a reporter Monday night. Social-networking Web pages, including those on MySpace and Facebook, maintained by the Marine and his family members also have been taken down.

1. Why threaten the family? They weren't responsible
for the action of that dumb ass Marine.

11. In what disturbed, menacing universe does that make sense?
Please tell me.

3. Threatening the family is wrong
But we would have to know the kind of family environment this Marine grew up in, before a determination of responsibility.

Or maybe it's something he learned on his own.

19. Look on LiveLeak. They're a better source for "objectionable" content like this.
No nudity, but they post lots of videos that other sites find objectionable. Most of it is pretty cool stuff, some of it is a bit gory. This video was on there yesterday, and they don't pull anything unless it violates their rules against displaying nudity, human death, or copyrighted content.

9. If only there were such concern over the deaths of innocent Iraqi children.
People care more about the killing of a dog than they do Iraqi children, women and grand parents. What the hell is wrong with Americans?

10. Strangely enough, this could be the story that brings the war home.
It seems to be the vast majority of Americans haven't felt the horror of this war. Consider this: they don't have any innocent Iraquis in their home. But most of them have a puppy or kitty cat. Maybe the outrage over what this sick fuck did will help bring this travesty to an end. Maybe not! Just thinking out loud, so to speak.

I wouldn't blame the family right away. But I know a lot of vets who have been in pretty deep shit in the past. None of them are sick abusers of innocent animals. I don't think we can assume that the war made him like this. Maybe it did, I don't know...I'm just saying he might have been a proto-Jeff Dahmer before he went in. If he was, then the family would be of interest.

A disgusting story no matter what.

my 2 cents

13. Good Grief. It's not enough that 1 in 5 Iraqi children are left homeless
because of our immoral actions...that hundreds upon hundreds of thousands have been killed, that whole communities have been ethnically cleansed, that the refugee problem is unbelievable...

we now have Marines throwing a puppy over a cliff?

Sick.

15. Sad, a poor, defenseless puppy is the final dagger in the Bush presidency.
It's something no human being can ignore.

16. "Some posters have included the Snohomish County home address..."
...including some right here on DU, pathetically using the excuse that "oh that information is already on the Internet" as if that made repeating it here NOT disgusting.

17. L0oniX, you are truly an asshole if you think this act is no big deal.
...yes we grieve all human deaths, this indicates a psychotic disregard of all life. Every serial killer in history has started by torturing animals. Add the human atrocities committed by soldiers of this ilk, and see whats coming to neighborhood near you soon.
