Army mustering IRR members, reinvigorating force

ARLINGTON, Va. — The Army this week will begin to muster 10,000 Individual Ready Reserve members at locations across the United States.

The muster, which will last through June, is part of a seven-year Army project to reinvigorate the force, Army Human Resources Command spokesman Ray Gall said.

“We’re working on making a viable force that can be deployed as needed,” he said. “We want to get a better handle on how ready these people really are, using these musters.”

IRR members will be paid $190 to attend a muster, which is taxable, Gall said.

1. Bush seeks more pliable commanders...musters reserves
in an alternative reality that would have been enough to indicate that the dogs of war were about to be loosed again

6. Thanks to this Admins....
callous regard for the safety and well being of out soldiers and Reservist, we no longer have a "viable force that can be deployed". As an ex USAR, I want to cry at what they have done to our military.

14. This is just beyond disgusting
The IRR is there if we get invaded by Russia or whatever, but not for this bullshit war on Iraq. We're going to pull people who honorably served their country in an explainable war and dump them into an unexplainable war with no time limit, and do it for people who have whole lives constructed - grandkids, whateer.

I didn't know you could put a country like this so easily in the toilet.

I'm ashamed and scared.

16. Seriously. Ask people if they support the war, and draft them immediately.
Edited on Thu Mar-06-08 09:17 AM by DUlover2909
Regardless of physical condition or age or gender or sexual orientation. We can find a place for them on the front lines. Here's a grenade. You carry it over there and throw it as far as you can. Then come back for another grenade, ad infinitum.

18. For the remaining war mongers
who still support the idiot Bush: Sign up or shut up. And for the war profiteers: Pay your fair share of taxes. A level playing field favors no one. For the reich wingers always blabbing about taking responsibility: Here's your chance.
For the IRR who do show for muster: Stay drunk or high, you could become Commander-in-Chief.
This is the neocon reality and immorality being presented as patriotism and American ideals and values.
Oh well, time to go stick an ice pick in my head.

21. I was in the Naval Reserves in the '90's
I was USNR-MMR (Merchant Marine Reserves) and did 2 weeks/year active duty. I finally got my honorable discharge after I was moved to the Navy's IRR and at my wife's urging, in 1999. She kept worrying about the remote possibility of the government activating IRR members. I kept telling her that if we ever had to activate IRR members, then we were in serious trouble. I told her this in jest, never thinking that we would come to it. Well folks, we are in serious trouble.
