A Political War on The Law Continues on Alabama Soil
Source: The Locust Fork Journal

by Glynn Wilson

The Bush Justice Department and the administration of Alabama Governor Bob Riley continue to play offense in the great ongoing political war against the rule of law in America. The war is being played out on Alabama soil like some of the great battles of the Civil War, only this time, the federal government is on the wrong side of history.

In a move that can only be described as political theater, as opposed to honest, objective law enforcement, United States Attorney Alice Martin sent henchmen from the U.S. Marshals Service all the way from Birmingham to Montgomery this week to make a show of serving subpoenas on members of the Alabama Legislature.

If not for long-standing Legislative rules, they would have stormed into the Legislative chamber, with TV cameras from Birmingham in tow, to put on a real show.

2. Is any major local media giving this real coverage in Alabama?
All I read is that the major papers are playing a big propoganda role in painting all of these actions as legit, and painting it as "more corrupt dems" rather than questioning whether this could be *gasp* a iron-curtainesque political purging via the federal government. Is there any local news media giving full info to Alabamans? If not, is there any sense on the ground by regular folks that something very strange (and bad) is afoot?

3. Nope.
The 'Big 3', B'ham News, Mobile Register, and Huntsville Times carry very little coverage that doesn't support the prosecutors and judge.
And their editorials on the matter are always critical of Siegelman.

4. what about local tv news media?
in Indiana - questions about voting machines and irregularities were pushed INTO the media by coverage from one news station in Indianapolis.

6. How can that be combatted?
How can people call for accountability of public officials, if they are intentionally kept ignorant?

I wonder what would happen if folks burned tons of the CBS sixtyminutes stories on CDs and started distributing them to others. Or copies of Scott Horten's reporting left at the tables at local coffee shops in bookstores (ie the coffee shop in barnes and nobles where folks stop to read while they drink their coffee)?

Something has to be done to get the word out. Only then will there be enough pressure on the local media to start
covering the story or risk being totally discredited with their readership/viewership.

9. There is a solution
CONGRESSIONAL OVERSIGHT. How long will it take
Senator Leahy or Congressman Conyers to act? This
has all the appearance of a breakdown of the Federal
Judiciary and it is high time for action on their part.
