Lieberman explains support for McCain (to his hometown paper)
Edited on Sun Mar-16-08 03:06 PM by kskiska
Source: The Advocate

STAMFORD -- U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman, I-Conn, told the editorial board of The Advocate and Greenwich Time he's supporting Republican John McCain for president because he's the most likely to bring about change in Washington.

"To me, one of the great problems we have in Washington, before we can solve the real problems, is partisanship," Lieberman told a group of reporters and editors at The Advocate's Stamford office Friday afternoon.

(snip)

"He actually, in my opinion, will bring about more change than the Democratic candidates because he's a boat-rocker . . . a problem-solver," Lieberman said of McCain. "He's really a reformer."

Lieberman's support for the U.S. senator from Arizona has been the last straw for many Democrats in the state reeling from his successful independent run against Ned Lamont, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate, in 2006. His critics say the Stamford resident has abandoned the Democratic Party and say he remains a member in name only.

(snip)

Friday, Lieberman said he will attend the Republican National Convention this summer, "if Senator McCain thinks it will be helpful to be there in some capacity."

We've seen the "change" McCain plans to bring about - taking all of the Idiot's policies and replacing the words "Bush's failed idea" with the words "McCain's failed idea".

Now, THAT'S change we can all believe in!

5. BS! Traitor Joe is supporting McBush because he wants to bomb Iran in support of Israel!
I realize Joe is of Jewish decent, but he's putting his support of Israel over his concern for the US! I only HOPE the people in Ct. who voted for him now realize what a mistake they made!

7. Could this man be any more disingenuous?
If he really believed the "partisanship" line, he'd have flocked to Obama's unity message.

The fact that he hasn't been stripped of his committee assignment is a real black mark on the Democratic "leadership," -and one that demonstrates weakness, not resolve.

28. Lieberman, he is the most obvious
self-serving political crook I can think of at the moment. To think we once respected him. He sure is a good con artist. Connecticut must be embarrassed to some small extent.

I doubt he will run again...he's getting old isn't he? He has what, 4 more years as a Senator of the Independent Party?

Who, McSame? No, he's the most likely to keep the adventure in Iraq going, and to follow your neocon raodmap to invade other countries.

LIEberman must think people are pretty stupid. I'm looking forward to January when he gets busted back to a freshman senator with no assignments other than to clean the Senate toilets.

I'm not sure about that. Lieberman can count on Republican votes and enough Democrats to put him over the edge. It will be VERY hard to get him out of that seat.

Edited on Sun Mar-16-08 04:43 PM by Malva Zebrina
Why is he still sitting chair of Homeland Security? Surely Reid has the power to oust him from this, doesn't he? Sorry, let him go over to the neocon Republicans and strip him of his committee chair. We need dregs like Lieberman, supporting a Republican, on the Democratic side and hosting chairs of committees?

The man has gone over to the other side and needs to get booted out of having any authority whatsoever on the Democratic side of the aisle.

and yeah, Susan Collins needs to go too.

Enough Connecticut Dems were foolish enough to believe his bullshit back when he was running against Lamont. Why shouldn't he try to convince them to now vote Republican? As a Lamont supporter, Lieberman is fulfilling my expectations.

Behold the future of your candidate, a Democratic turncoat. Both persons endorsed John McCain, one explicitely, the other implicitely (even over herself). After Hillary gets done ripping the shit out of this party, she will be on the outside.
