Four, Up To 14 Twisters Hit Metro Atlanta
Source: WSBTV

The storms that hit metro Atlanta were even worse than most people thought.

There were four and possibly as many 14 tornadoes spawned over the weekend, officials at the National Weather Service said Monday afternoon.

With most of the city's downtown tourism infrastructure damaged by a tornado, officials are scrambling to make sure no upcoming conventions move to other cities.

So far, no events scheduled for downtown Atlanta have canceled despite hundreds of hotel rooms being out of commission and significant damage to the city's largest convention venue, the Georgia World Congress Center, said Spurgeon Richardson, president and CEO of the Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau.

1. kick for Atlanta and people everywhere having to deal with wind damage.
On the way home today, I was thinking about this latest spawn of tornadoes and about the damage left by Katrina across MS/LA. Wind damage can be quite something, even up here in the NW where we get wind storms in (usually) fall. Hoping for a speedy recovery everywhere, and don't forget to have an emergency kit made.

4. Although total number hasn't moved much, they seem to be a lot earlier.

Table and interesting graph here--> http://www.spc.noaa.gov/climo/torn/monthlytornstats.html

3-year average for Feb. is 25. This year (prelim) is 232.

But I'm sure you're right--nothing to see here!

edit: oops, typo

5. Scrambling to make sure no upcoming conventions move to other cities?
This from the city that poached several conventions from New Orleans, including one where I presented?!

Poetic justice and karma require that the N.O. Convention and Visitors Bureau get on the horn to everyone who's planning a meeting in Atlanta this Spring, ASAP.
