Blast near U.S. embassy kills Yemeni guard

A Yemeni Interior Ministry official says one Yemeni guard has been killed in an explosion near the U.S. embassy in the capital of San'a. Other local guards and some schoolchildren also have been wounded.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity as Yemeni officials often do.

The official says the Tuesday blast came after unknown attackers fired a mortar at a school next to the embassy. It is unclear if the embassy or the school was the target.
