White House E-Mail Battle Heats Up
Source: ABC News

Judge: White House Has Three Days to Explain Why It Shouldn't Have to Copy Its Computer Hard Drives

The White House has three days to explain why it shouldn't be required to copy its computer hard drives to ensure no further e-mails are lost, a federal judge ordered Tuesday.

Already, e-mails between March and October 2003 appear to have been lost, Judge John M. Facciola noted, because they were improperly archived and no backup copies exist. That period includes the U.S. invasion of Iraq.

E-mails by White House staff are considered part of the nation's historical record, and federal law requires they be preserved. The White House has admitted that potentially millions of e-mails from the past eight years have been erased, although it has provided conflicting accounts on how many may still exist on backup tapes.

...

Judge Facciola rejected as "draconian" a proposal by the Archive that would have forced the White House to quarantine every computer workstation it had. Instead, Facciola proposed the White House make a "forensic copy" of all preservable data on every computer that could have been used by an employee between 2003 and 2005, the period in question.

Observing that even that step is "not without its costs," Facciola gave the White House until close of business Friday to argue why it should not be required to make such copies.

5. They're definitely GONE. I guarantee you every original hard drive
with incriminating emails has been smashed to dust, and the hard drives they have now just have the acceptable emails copied onto them. These people aren't stupid.

7. They probably just handed the hard drives on the mail server
to the military in Classified bags and told them to take care of it. The federal protocol for top secret data destruction at one point was rumored to involve crushing the disk, then grinding it up into pieces before burying them somewhere in a landfill.

10. Well, actually they are both stupid and incompetent.
But chances are that many of those harddrives are long gone.

9. Because the messages on the White House's mail servers are gone
deleted, history, no backups. Recovery from PCs that those messages were sent to or from could be used to piece together what was happening during the missing message timeframe.

15. CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR
This is just another example of CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR on the part of the Bush Regime. How many more times must the Regime defy judges/Congress/voters before there is IMPEACHMENT??? It is documented that Bush & Co. have outright lied about a myriad issues since taking power in 2001. Let's go through a few:

9/11 -- outright lies and possible complicity with "alleged attackers"
Justification for Iraq War re: WMDs
Cheney Energy Task Force Mtg
Anthrax Investigation
Iraq/9/11 Link
Iraq/Al-Qaeda Link
EPA censorship
Military Contractor Fraud & Abuse
Domestic Eavesdropping/NSA Wiretapping, et al.

I could go and on, but you get the idea. The Bush Regime is destroying all the evidence so in the future, when Pres. Obama takes office, there will not be enough information left to prosecute Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, Wolfowitz, Powell, Tenet, etc.
