Bush says Iraq war was worth it (exerpts from speech he's to give at Pentagon)
Source: AP

WASHINGTON - President Bush says he has no doubts about launching the unpopular war in Iraq despite the "high cost in lives and treasure," arguing that retreat now would embolden Iran and provide al-Qaida with money for weapons of mass destruction to attack the United States.

Bush is to mark the fifth anniversary of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq on Wednesday with a speech at the Pentagon. Excerpts of his address were released Tuesday night by the White House.

At least 3,990 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the war in 2003. It has cost taxpayers about $500 billion and estimates of the final tab run far higher. Nobel Prize-winning economist Joseph E. Stiglizt and Harvard University public finance expert Linda Bilmes have estimated the eventual cost at $3 trillion when all the expenses, including long-term care for veterans, are calculated.

22. Not good enough
Actually, I'd like to see him do an endo over the handlebars of his bike and end up a quadriplegic. Then I'd like to hear a Doctor tell him we may be able to cure you if we can try a embryonic stem cell procedure. Oops! you banned that, didn't you? Never mind.

7. Madeline Albright thought it was worth it...
Everyone thinks it was worth it. The Bushes. The Clintons. The Dynasty.

They will rot in Hell for eternity. I suppose that will be worth it as well.

16. It's an ever replenshing pot of gold for those horrible slobs, their "war"
Of course, from their perspective, it was worth it.

Madeline Albright was only telling the truth, that is, the truth according to that class of warmongers/profiteers she represents.

24. It's worth it to those who profit, I guess.
But even Milo Minderbinder had the balls to put on a uniform before he made money out of war.

5. Yes it was worth it....in retrospect.
A lot of money was made.

Don't worry, the Iraq war is coming to an end. No doubt Bush and Cheney have both been told.
That's why Cheney is over there - to kiss his precious oil Good Bye.

The U.S. has finally reached a point where we simply cannot afford it any longer. That's also why Bush has been spouting the same message: it's great, it's worth it.

Use PAST Tense, Bush.

Bush says Iraq war was worth it

By TERENCE HUNT, AP White House Correspondent

Democrats offered a different view from Bush's.

"On this grim milestone, it is worth remembering how we got into this situation, and thinking about how best we can get out," said Rep. John Dingell, D-Mich. "The tasks that remain in Iraq — to bring an end to sectarian conflict, to devise a way to share political power, and to create a functioning government that is capable of providing for the needs of the Iraqi people are tasks that only the Iraqis can complete."

In his remarks, Bush repeated his oft-stated determination to prosecute the war into the unforeseen future.

"The successes we are seeing in Iraq are undeniable, yet some in Washington still call for retreat," the president said. "War critics can no longer credibly argue that we are losing in Iraq, so now they argue the war costs too much. In recent months, we have heard exaggerated estimates of the costs of this war.

11. I'm sure Halliburton, Exxon, and the Carlyle Group agree with him.
But the millions of dead past and future due to these criminal policies probably would prefer we hadn't attacked Iraq.

19. Hate is wrong.
No matter who is doing the hating, or who you hate, or how justified your hatred is, it eats away at you, and hurts you far more than the object of that hatred.

But I swear to God, I despise this man so much. I'm sick with it. I can't read this kind of shit today, need a break.

23. The W stands for WRONG.
"War critics can no longer credibly argue that we are losing in Iraq, so now they argue the war costs too much..."

I can credibly argue that we are losing in Iraq, and my first argument would be that it costs too much. It has, along with other crime family schemes, weakened the dollar and weakened our economy. The world has lost faith in our leadership, and daily turns away from the globalization scheme that so benefited the crony class at our expense. We, the little people, face a recession that may well turn out to be a depression, thanks to your drunken spending and capitulation to looting every department of the government, most notably defense.

We are losing in Iraq, because the surge-is-working into perpetuity, appears to be being accomplished partly through bribing both Sunnis and Shia. The cost of the war has gone up rather dramatically. The $12B a month cost does not depend on someone's analysis of veterans benefits. It's upfront, and it's money that could have been invested in America.

Military officials said, at the time of the "surge" that it would stretch the military to the breaking point. As far as I know, that remains an accurate assessment.

To argue now that "retreat now would embolden Iran and provide al-Qaida with money for weapons of mass destruction to attack the United States," piles obscenity on obscenity. Iran was emboldened, was the prime non-privatized defense contractor beneficiary, by your invasion of Iraq. Al-Qaida in Iraq did not exist, and nothing has fueled their cause like Abu Ghraib. Lastly, how dare you mention the fear of WMD being used to attack the United States, as I believe that brings us full circle to why your fear-mongering lying ass should have been IMPEACHED.

17. Less Than a Year Left on Bush's Pentagon Pass
Thankfully, his Pentagon pass expires Janury 20, 2009. I guess that he will have to give his 6 year anniversary speech somewhere else (maybe to Laura in Dallas).
