Justice, State Looking Into Obama Passport Breach, Rice 'Sorry' About Incident, Pledges Investigatio

Source: CBS

WASHINGTON (CBS) ― The State Department says officials at the Justice Department are monitoring State's internal investigation into whether three contract workers had a political motive for looking at Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's passport file.

State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said Friday that the State inspector general's office is looking into the matter, but Justice Department officials have been notified in case they need to get involved.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said she had spoken with Obama about the incident.

"I told him that I was sorry, and I told him that I myself would be very disturbed if I learned that someone had looked in my passport file," Rice said.

~snip~

It would not release the names of those who were fired and disciplined or the names of the two companies for which they worked. The department's inspector general is investigating.

5. Any names yet associated with these three people?
I imagine that the one that is still working would never be made available to the public but have to find out the two that were fired.

To expect us to believe that it was done out of "curiousity" three seperate times is ludicrous.

11. The Inspector General at the State Department can't do squat
on the two people who were fired. He doesn't even have the jurisdiction to telephone them at home.

This is hush up, pass the buck, nothing to see here, just walk on, folks.

24. He can't do squat because the position is empty
"He" was Howard J. "Cookie" Krongard. who resigned Jan. 08 after publicity of his covering up Iraq contractor fraud.

Not that any of the filled Inspector positions have accomplished much...they are all "loyal Bushies".

15. So we are supposed to believe that three separate "contract" workers, on three separate occasions,
. . . in three separate locations ALL JUST HAPPENED TO BE LOOKING AT THE SAME SPECIFIC TYPES OF FILES?

These "contract workers" were GOP agents hired to infiltrate the State Department to find out something that they had a lead on.

Will any of the press whores ask this question? Will any of the press whores find out who it was and who they were working for?

18. Condi is sincerely sorry... that they were caught.
After the Bushies were caught snooping in the Clinton files in 1992,
everybody should have been warned those files were off-limits.

The people at State were criminally negligent, if not simply criminal.

20. Watergate 2.0
One thing I predicted with the implementation of "Patriot Act" and other "National Security" measures was that the government, or rather the NeoCon illegally elected administration, wanted to effectively legalize previous measures.

One was "Cointelpro", tracking "Counterculture" groups and doing illegal things against them, even if no real connection to criminal / foreign elements can be found.

But the other was "Watergate" where they spied on 'legitimate' political rivals to help with elections.

And note that quickly after the first breach, the news was filled with "Obama was in a Madrassa school!" stories.

So, I don't believe this was just some employees amusing themselves. I think this was deliberate.

Rice to Obama: Sorry for Passport Breach
2008-03-21 10:50:24
By DESMOND BUTLER Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) — Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Friday apologized to Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama for an incident in which three State Department contractors inappropriately reviewed his passport file.

The episode raised questions as to whether the actions of the three contractors, two of whom have been fired, were politically motivated. "I told him that I was sorry, and I told him that I myself would be very disturbed," Rice told reporters.

"None of us wants to have a circumstance where any American's passport files are looked at in an unauthorized way," she said.

Rice, who spoke with Obama by phone, said she was particularly disappointed that senior officials at the State Department were not immediately notified. "It was not to my knowledge, and we also want to take every step to make sure that this kind of thing doesn't happen again," she said.

Obama: "I have no recollection of receiving such an apology...I did receive a briefing regarding Rice in which she said something to the effect of 'Rice apologizes to Obam for Passport Breach' but I can't say if there was any apology."

Wouldn't it be nice if he could throw the 9-11 briefing issue in her face again?
