Tabloid editor receives six month imprisonment for reporting that Mubarak was ill

An outspoken Egyptian tabloid news editor has been sentenced to six months in prison for reporting on the president's health problems

The case started when Eissa published stories in August speculating on the failing state of President Hosni Mubarak's health. The stories ran for several days, including one saying the president had lapsed into a coma.

Mubarak, who has ruled Egypt for more than a quarter century, has no designated successor. But many say his son Gamal is being groomed for power, a prospect that has raised widespread opposition.

The 41-year-old Eissa has also received a one year sentence in a separate case along with three other newspaper editors in September for defaming Mubarak and his ruling party.
