A spokesman for the Baghdad security plan, Tahsin al-Sheikhly, was kidnapped from his Baghdad home by armed men on Thursday, security officials told AFP.

The officials said Sheikhly, who spoke on civic matters related to the security plan launched in February last year, was abducted from his home in Baghdad's Al-Amin neighbourhood at around 2:30 pm (1130 GMT).

"Armed men stormed his home at a time when there were clashes in his neighbourhood," a security official with the interior ministry said.

7. Actually, the GOP spin is easy. We can't let the terrorists win. The
Iraqis need our help now more than ever. We must defeat terrorism, or else face a homeland mushroom cloud, so expect a whole lot more of the same. That ought to solve everything.
This spin has worked so far, and it it never wavers. The worse it gets in Iraq, the more they stick to this spin.

Iraqi spokesman kidnapped in Baghdad
By KIM GAMEL, Associated Press Writer

BAGHDAD - An Interior Ministry official says the civilian spokesman for the Baghdad security operation has been kidnapped and three bodyguards killed.

Tahseen Sheikhly is a Sunni who often appeared with U.S. military and embassy officials at news conferences to tout the successes of the crackdown that began in Baghdad and surrounding areas more than a year ago.

The official says gunmen stormed Sheikhly's house Thursday in a Mahdi Army stronghold in southeastern Baghdad and torched it. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to release the information.
