Max Mosley faces calls to quit as Formula One chief after ‘Nazi’ orgy
Source: The Times (UK)

Max Mosley, one of the most powerful men in world sport, was under pressure to resign as boss of Formula One’s governing body last night after he was exposed enjoying a Nazi-style orgy with five prostitutes.

Jewish groups condemned the behaviour of Mosley, 67, whose father, Sir Oswald, was the leader of the British Union of Fascists and a friend of Adolf Hitler.

Mr Mosley was caught on video by the News of the World with five women in an underground “torture chamber” in Chelsea, where he spent several hours allegedly indulging in sado-masochistic sex.

The Oxford-educated former barrister, who is president of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), reenacted a concentration camp scene in which he played the role of both guard and inmate.

I know it's a "consenting adults behind closed doors" -story, but if this is true, it will be interesting to see how this plays out with such a high-profile and powerful man...For those that don't follow motorsports, Mosley is in essence the pope, to use an analogy...And like the pope, he also has more than a few enemies....

1. When I saw the name I thought that was a wierd coincidence
but apparently it's not, seeing as how his dad was *that* Mosley. Guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

6. I was hoping Ecclestone was the recipient of the whip.

No such luck.

edit: After watching the video, I see Max was both the whipper and the whippee. Interesting video.

11. Maybe they can return to racing slicks on the cars, now.
I believe the whole grooved tire/tractor tire look idea was his.

14. Yes, afaik, he at least supported it totally...
There is no real overtaking happening in F1 because the cars depend so much on aerodynamical downforce which is reduced as soon as one car follows the other. So the follower has considerably less grip and can't follow really closely to overtake after the next straight.
Mechanical grip ( from tires/suspension ) is the key but that is low due to the grooved tires, the emphasis totally on aerodynamical downforce.

They should return to real racing tires and cut the aerodynamics ( all these flip-flaps everywhere ) which would also help cut the costs drastically ( which is their goal supposedly ). They started to reduce aerodynamic influence on the cars by introducing these new lifted front wings. But there have to be ways to not make the cars look ridiculous by the rules. FIA always manages to do this, grooved tires being the worst in that respect.

They wanted to cut costs for the engines and made this one single engine-for-two-entire-race-weekends-rule. Supposed to save costs but at the same time they made the teams develop whole new engine concepts ( e.g. V8 vs V10 ), wonder how much THAT cost. Plus, you see half the cars roll around in the training sessions each weekend to not overstress the engine...race cars, hello?!

Another sucky rule is the qualifying format where the cars have to start the last qualifying session with race-fuel which means they are heavy and just drive around at the beginning to burn as much fuel as possible to be light as possible to qualify best possible. What for?! To burn fuel for nothing probably...

Bottom line, FIA is a club of idiots imo and mosley is their uber-idiot. Will be glad when he is gone.

PS : I don't understand the many Americans coming to Indy to watch F1... that stuff is boring. You should rather kick tony george's ass and re-unite Champcar and IRL so you have an openwheel series like before '96. THAT stuff was really something I loved to watch!

17. Totally the right thing to do
And if somehow we can get Tony George out of it it will be even better.

The 500 (and the sport in general) hasn't been the same since the split.

19. It's a pretty recent deal, no coherent (internet-)picture yet but let's hope...
...it gets back to how it was in CART's heyday... then there would be an open-wheel series worth watching again, and the 500!

21. Seconded. Tony George is a perfect example of the "Lucky Sperm Club"
One of the main reasons for starting the IRL in the first place was so that Tony could be in charge. The result has been dismal TV ratings, falling attendance at most events and confusion among the casual fan.

His original idea that the IRL would be an "all oval, all American" racing series has been a joke and here it is now, 12 years on, and he is embracing the races he supposedly held in such contempt - road courses and street races. He took what was a serious, legitimate racing series with increasing attendance and TV viewership and international interest and appeal and screwed it up totally. The Indy 500 is a shell of its former self and if the speedway didn't intentionally suppress ticket sales, the NASCAR race would outdraw the 500.

I worked in Indy Car and held a CART hard card for 7 years from 89 through 96 and attended 6 straight 500's as a participant and I'm telling you, if Tony George was not Tony Hulman's grandson, he would be little more than the failed Indy Lights race car driver he is.

22. I like that! Lucky Sperm Club indeed.
I had a CART hard card, too. I worked with tech and a few other specialties.

Tony George is a joke. I'll never forgive him for what he did to my sport.

7. Blimey! What is
all the fuss about? Nothing new. This kind of behaviour is a national pastime in jolly old England amongst the higher educated classes. Starts with the whippings and canings at the elementary school level and by the time they've graduated university they've got their SM designation as well.
