Cantaloupe recall continues to expand
Source: UPI

WASHINGTON, March 31 (UPI) -- The recall of Honduran-grown cantaloupes now includes the Dole Food Co., Bounty Fresh LLC, Spokane Produce Inc., and Chiquita Brands International Inc.

The four firms joined several other companies in recalling cantaloupes grown, packed and shipped by Agropecuaria Montelibano of San Lorenzo, Valle, Honduras, due to possible salmonella contamination.

The cantaloupes were distributed across the United States and Canada under various brand names, including "Mike's Melons," "Mayan Pride," "Chiquita," "Chestnut Hill Farms," "Perfect Melon," "Yokes," Garden Patch" and "Rosavers Classic."

The FDA advised consumers who have recently bought cantaloupes to check with the place of purchase to determine if the fruit came from Agropecuaria Montelibano. If so, consumers should discard the cantaloupes.

5. This is NOT about Honduran cantalope contamination
and ALL ABOUT the U.S. Gubmint's attempts to crash their economy as payback. It's been done before and they're doing it again.

7. Absolutely. I read a fascinating OP in GD over the weekend that explained this in detail...
I'll see if I cannot dig up the link.

11. Several ways
Tainted wash water, improperly sanitized processing equipment, animal fecal matter, unwashed hands because of lack of washroom facilities out in the fields, etc.

When you cut into a melon, the knife drags the outside contamination onto the flesh.

9. Buying seasonal foods is a good way to prevent this.
Let Honduras raise food for Hondurans.

12. Unless the Cantaloupe was injected with the germs
regular washing and peeling ought to be sufficient. This is nuts.
