DOJ Sues Wal-Mart For Not Rehiring Air Force Veteran

The Department of Justice filed suit against Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT) for allegedly violating the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994.

A representative for Wal-Mart couldn't be reached for immediate comment.

The government alleges the Bentonville, Ark., retail chain violated USERRA by failing and refusing to reinstate Air Force airman Sean Thornton to his position of cashier at a Florida outlet after he was discharged by the Air Force.

The employment act requires that individuals who leave their jobs to serve in the military be reemployed by their civilian employers in the same position had they not left to serve.

While Wal-Mart wholeheartedly supports the Republican party and therefore supports the troops (as evidenced by the presence of yellow ribbon magnets for sale at the checkout counters), your services will be terminated effective immediately should you ever heed the call to active duty in the armed forces. We'll certainly "support" you as a troop, but once you are discharged you will be treated as a throwaway civilian liability. So by all means, please don't darken our door if and when you ever return. What really angers me the most is why do Americans shop at Wall Mart in the first place?? There are alternatives out there..... When will America wake up??? I hope airman Thornton finds a better job or maybe gets hired at Target or Sears, better yet, a real union middle class job.
