American Airlines Union: No exec bonuses (19,000 members)
Source: Associated Press

EULESS, Texas

American Airlines flight attendants' union said Tuesday they want the company's executives to defer their bonuses.

The Association of Professional Flight Attendants is distributing tags to its 19,000 members that will hang just below each attendant's ID. The tags contain the words "decline" on one side and "resign" on the other.

The union said if the company's five senior executives don't agree by April 15 to defer their next round of bonuses, the attendants will flip the tags and demand their resignations. The union says the company's executive bonuses over the last five years have totaled nearly $300 million.

"These executives must defer this round of massive bonus payments to themselves until they've met their obligations to their work force," union president Laura Glading in a news release. "Otherwise they'll have lost the moral authority to lead this company, and should resign their positions."

3. Hooray for the attendants! This needs to be part of every company's
policy, and implemented by their boards of directors.

5. It is always the flight attendants
that get things moving. 4 or 5 years ago, AA was trying to force all their unions to accept pay cuts. The flight attendants hadn't voted yet, and news of executive bonuses slipped out. They refused the pay cuts until bonuses were declined. Also brought down the CEO.

7. Every industry exec should face this kind of action; I'm sick to death
of reading of multi-million-dollar payouts given to execs, half the time for having run the company into the ground! Meantime, the workers whose labor has created that wealth are sharing none of it, and are struggling to make ends meet.
Personally, I have a problem with anything over a million bucks a year (TOTAL - salary, bonuses, etc.) If you are either too lazy or too greedy to go to work every day for a million bucks a year, you don't deserve to get paid a penny, I don't care who you are or what you do.

8. Exec compensation really gets me going.....
In light of "executive bonuses over the last five years have totaled nearly $300 million."

The company had this bs to say:

In response to the union's announcement, American released the following statement from Sue Gordon, the company's labor spokeswoman: "Our management compensation is market-based, similar to that of many U.S. businesses including airlines. It is the same structure that has been in place for more than 10 years and is designed to align the long-term interests of shareholders and management. The value to individuals is completely at-risk and based on strict performance criteria."

What a bunch of stuff! Everyone else does it so will we! Completely "at-risk" and strict performance criteria....hey I want a piece of that risk!! I'm thinking pilots and flight attendants are even on more of a performance criteria plan than the execs ever dreamed of!
